Traditionally, when an item has been placed in a Guild Hall, that item has been considered as “donated” by the person placing it. As there is no cash value to items acquired in-game, donation seems an appropriate paradigm. However with the introduction of furniture and other placeable items to the StationCash Marketplace, you are entering the realm of items with cash value. The ability to place items purchased with StationCash in Guild Halls has been inconsistent at best, mostly because of the Customer Service implications of thousands of players asking for their StationCash money back (or items) if they...

From an e-mail I just received! NOTE: For most players, you do not need to do anything, as this entitlement will automatically be added to your account, but check your SOE.com account over the next week or so to make sure this is added.
I have to give props to SOE for doing a solid job putting together all the FAQs, Announcements, and information being posted today (even if some of it has frustratingly changed at the last minute). It has been a lot clearer than past announcements. That said, we can’t help but notice three different answers to a simple question: What’s the release date for EverQuest II: Age of Discovery? Pre-Order Announcement — Winter 2011 EQ2 CM Announcement — November 30, 2011 SmokeJumper’s Producer’s Letter — early December If you’re confused, trust me, you’re not alone. UPDATE from SmokeJumper: We are...
It looks like any kind of big news affecting EverQuest II: Age of Discovery might have to wait until tomorrow Thursday. Here’s SmokeJumper‘s announcement of the Eight Year Veteran Rewards (which we covered on Saturday) and a free Lucan D’Lere Statue: Huzzah and yippee-ki-ay! We’re seven! The EverQuest franchise is near and dear to our hearts here at SOE and we really appreciate all of you that have also grown to love Norrath over the years. As a small token of our appreciation, and to tie in with the “Freeport Reborn” game update coming up soon, there is a...
It seems that SOE has also been caught up in the difference between when the US goes off Daylight Savings Time (changed in 2007 to the first Sunday in November) and Europe which goes off Daylight Savings on the last Sunday in October. It’s now 1 hour and 20 minutes past the scheduled time for SOE’s Bonfire Night celebration on the Splitpaw server and there’s no sign of an event happening. Hey it could happen to anyone…
From EverQuest2.com: A couple of weeks ago, we invited EQII players to participate in a Haunted Homes Decorating Forum Challenge. All participants used their own homes, their own currency, and their own items to decorate with the Haunted Homes/Nights of the Dead theme. We received about 118 qualifying entries. It was an amazing turnout and as such, it was very difficult for the Community Team to judge so many fantastic houses. Thank you to everyone who participated and we are hoping to do this type of contest again soon.
As a matter of course, we have left the marketing of StationCash Marketplace items to the forums, EverQuest2.com, and the Welcome window when logging into EQ2. However this week’s haul includes a set of in-game paintings, something players have been requesting for quite some time. We got a giggle out of the title of this painting ‘Seeking the Burned Woods’. If you don’t know the backstory on that, read the story. Maybe the next bunch of paintings will include Fansy the Bard. These 5 paintings are $2.50 each (.83 cents each if you got triple SC).

From the EQ2 Forums: There have been several reported issues of players who are unable to get the Nights of the Dead quests from Ponchy. If you have done them in previous years, there seems to be a bug where it won’t let you get them again. While we are working on fixing this, please petition Customer Service to have the old quests removed. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience and will message again when we have this working normally. http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?start=0&topic_id=508575#5649447

From the EQ2 Forums: DUNGEON FINDER Dungeons are now broken into categories. If a player declines a DF offer, they must wait 15 minutes before they can queue again. The dungeon finder will now give an indication of how many players of each archetype are queued for each dungeon. Any member of the group can now set group options, but everyone in the group must vote on the changes before they apply. LIVE EVENTS Nights of the Dead The headless Horseman should once again be patrolling Nektulos Forest. An Essence of Fear and an Eerie Essence are now being...

Something that we can never forget, is that when we play an MMO, we play with real people. Most of the time, our relationships with our fellow players are superficial. Sometimes, real friendships form, and outlast the dragon slaying. But it’s those chance encounters, those brief moments when the paths of human beings cross for just a few moments, that brings into focus the reality of human relationships in a world where we choose just how much we want to reveal about ourselves.

From Kaitheel on the EQ2 Forums: Nights of the Dead 2011 has been activated on Test and Test Copy! Nights of the Dead once again brings goblins and ghoulies out from the shadows. Those inclined to celebrate the holiday through crafting will find a new book of recipes full of new house items being sold by official event merchants. And those feeling more adventurous can trick-or-treat within Qeynos or Freeport or investigate the multiple haunted locations! But be wary as the mysterious Setri Lur’eth has been spotted at the beach in Nektulos Forest and the headless guardsman has been...
In July, an Aether Flying Race was added to the Thundering Steppes on the Test server. Turns out, this was created specifically for the Community, Customer Service, and Guide teams as something they can turn on for specific events, weekends, etc. This unique Aether Race was activated today, September 10th, on all EQ2 servers. It will be activated next week on the EQ2X Freeport server. Dellmon and Aliscious of EQ2Talk have been running the course like crazy trying to set an all-time track record. Although there is no unique title for completing the course within a specific time, there...
Tank and Spank vs. Complex Scripting vs. Fun In recent years, I’ve seen numerous posts from people complaining about how the different group/raid encounters work. A lot of the complaints say that they don’t want simple “Tank and Spank” encounters. But they also don’t want encounters with complex scripting, fail conditions, cure fests, etc. They want encounters that are fun and challenging without any of those things. So it got me wondering, how do you do that? How do you make an encounter without complex scripting, fail conditions, cure fests, etc. without turning it into a tank and spank...
Last week, SOE released their new server status page. I took a look at this to see if there was anything there that I might be able to use myself. There was. I’ve put together three different versions of an EQ2 server status page, two of which can be embedded into your own website.
