We have more details now about the upcoming Server Consolidation for EQ2 live servers, specifically which servers are merging where. To avoid confusion or “TL;DR”, we’ve prepared this handy guide to exactly what the server landscape will look like after this change: (updated on October 6th with the new server names) There’s no word on how character names will be reserved, as that is probably still being hammered out, but the most notable news today will likely be that Nagafen is merging into Freeport and Permafrost. This is not really surprising given how few players were logged in even...
We’ve got another UPDATE from EQ2 Technical Director Jenn Chan: Update: The fix is currently being pushed out for this issue. Also some more information from the LaunchPad team. LaunchPad will automatically update itself and when doing that there are a few things to call out: – Launchpad will lose the saved information for “Remember Me” username and password. It will also lose the saved locale (this data was cookied in the old LP4). Once the old launchpad has been updated to the new version, you can re-set these options. – We are not moving any of the file...

Believe it or not, it’s almost time for the first vote for whether the first EQ2 expansion “Desert of Flames” will go live next month or be held back. Players already voted on the first two Adventure Packs “Splitpaw” and “Bloodline Chronicles” and they will go live this August 20th. Remember it’s a Time-Locked Expansion Server, so it’s up to popular vote for how quickly the server progresses, not one raid guild clearing content. From the EQ2 Forums: Good day, Stormhold and Deathtoll inhabitants! I’ve received a lot of questions about the shape of things to come on the...
From the EQ2 Forums: GENERAL Fixed an issue where renaming a guild would revert after a server restart. TLE General Fixed an issue where players could visit published houses from anywhere. ABILITIES / ALTERNATE ADVANCEMENT Assassin Villainy – Corrected a bug that granted more mitigation than intended below level 80. Ranger Hunter’s Instinct – Corrected a bug that granted more mitigation than intended below level 80.
Popular tech blog VentureBeat has dropped a lengthy interview with members of the EverQuest II team to retrace how the Isle of Refuge newbie zone and Far Journey boat tutorial were resurrected, and then the ensuing shenanigans as the team tried to maintain the secret even as players stumbled upon more clues that what had once been deemed “impossible” was in fact going to launch just hours later. While it was a team effort, ultimately we have EQ2 designer Carlos “Gninja” Mora to thank for performing archaeology on parts of EQ2 that hadn’t been seen in eight years, and...
Early this morning, the “Malicious Threat” prelude event was activated on all EQ2 live (non-TLE) servers. This event will undoubtedly tie current events into this fall’s upcoming expansion, while giving some hints of what we can expect later this year. The prelude event was tested on the Test server and is now live until September 16, 2015. Good players can start the “Malice in the Glade” quest in Greater Faydark while Evil players should start the “Malice in the Woods” version in Darklight Wood. Both quests start in Greater Faydark. These quest writeups are by Sigrdrifa. When the quest...

Since the launch of EverQuest II, players have been able to submit bug reports and feedback through the in-game /bug and /feedback commands. It’s nice and integrated, but they are essentially a black hole. Players have no idea when or if their issue has been tested, confirmed to be a bug, or a timeframe when it might be addressed. Players have speculated that /bug and /feedback might not even be read (they are!). Over the years, other methods of bringing bugs and feedback to the EQ2 team’s attention have arisen, each with strengths and weaknesses. Break On Through to the Other Side In 2004, EverQuest...

Everything in yesterday’s EverQuest II Producer’s Letter by Holly “Windstalker” Longdale was a home run, with one exception: Note that I wrote, “server consolidation” [rather than server mergers]. That’s not evasive language, but our approach. We think our best path is to consolidate some lower population servers into a new server and build a brand new server community from those players. When asked what this means for existing character and guild names, Ry “Roshen” Schueller doubled down with this comment: This won’t be an issue, because low population servers are being merged into a NEW server. No names will...
From the EQ2 Forums: TIME-LOCKED SERVERS Mitigation will no longer display as debuffed (red) on the TLE servers due to the server mitigation reduction. Repeatable quests will now give a reduced coin reward. Time-Locked PvP Server mitigation reduction will no longer effect PvP combat. LIVE EVENTS Chris Weathers is now selling the “Kelethin Mossy Table” for City Token, as intended. The Tome of Tinkering – Quest is now listed in the World Event category in the quest journal. ITEMS Corrected an issue that prevented [eq2u]pyrorock dust[/eq2u] from dropping.
From the EQ2 Forums: Greetings Norrathians! Here’s a quick update on what’s coming up for EQ2. Server Consolidation EverQuest 2 is best with friends, and in August we’re working on bringing players from different servers together! Our engineers have continued with database work that will allow not only cross-server dungeons and true cross-server battlegrounds, but also server consolidation. It’s a very complicated process, but we are targeting the end of August for US Servers to start testing at the very least.
Set your sights on Greater Faydark because the Kelethin City Festival returns from August 1-7! Spend City Tokens on local specialties, generic festival goods, appearance clothing, or food & drink. There are new vendor items at the festival this month! WHEN: 12:01am PT on August 1st – 11:59pm PT on August 7th WHERE: Greater Faydark, Green Knoll, /loc 536, 44, 53 QUESTS:...

The EQ2 team are slowly unlocking various creature comforts on the Time-Locked Expansion servers, including a few fluff Marketplace items, while Veteran Rewards and XP/Vitality potions currently remain off-limits. Some of these items were the subject of an in-game poll. One of the items that got the thumbs up from players were Personal Harvest Depots/Stashes for player housing (Guild Halls remain unavailable, possibly forever). Players were disappointed at the status cost and the very limited number of slots (30) stored by the 1,000 DBC ($10) item. Fortunately, we can expect an improvement to these items. From Caith on the...
It’s been over a year since SOE’s Gold and Station Pass subscriptions were revamped and rolled into a single All Access program. If it’s been a while since you played EverQuest II and you are just coming back, you might have forgotten what game features and entitlements you’ve been granted in EverQuest II. While you’re in-game, you can always type /show_account_features to see a localized listing all your in-game account features/grants. However if you want to see this information on a website, you have to know the secret handshake. This link is not shown anywhere on the DaybreakGames.com website. If you...

We’ve had Leaderboards functionality on EQ2U for about a year now but we didn’t provide PvP leaderboard tracking…until now! In honor of the new Time-Locked Expansion Deathtoll PvP server which has so far been incredibly popular, we’ve added City Kills, Wild Kills, and Deaths for PvP servers on our Leaderboards. We’re also working with the EQ2 team to add some additional stats to track. Examples: PvP Kills (Wild) Worldwide Top 100 Questers on Antonia Bayle Achievements Complete Worldwide If you haven’t checked out our Leaderboards feature, we show the top 100 characters on each server and worldwide for a...
Legendary author Douglas Adams once quipped “I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.” Realizing that this is neither a promise or guarantee, Windstalker has given us a glimmer of detail about the much-needed Server Merges that will merge a number of lower-population Live PvE servers… .@Henry15Stefans we are targeting end of august for #eq2 merges/consolidation. — Holly Longdale (@TheWindstalker) July 29, 2015

If you missed the merriment last week of Kander and Gninja running around Stormhold, the new Time-Locked Expansion server, and telling funny anecdotes, the video is now online! Although players had quickly figured out on Tuesday morning that Queen’s Colony and the Outpost of the Overlord (collectively the Isle of Refuge v2) were returning, it was a surprise to all that the Far Journey boat trip also came back as the first thing new characters experience. The livestream video is mostly the guys having a good time and talking about what it took to bring these zones back. Most...

The EverQuest II Community Round Table Influencers program, variously known over the years as the Summit, Influencers, Community Council, and Area 51, is back in a big way! I have personally confirmed that, rather than being a Marketing focus group, the new program is being personally managed by the EQ2 team! Game developers and designers are seeking our feedback on upcoming ideas and content and wish to create a more open dialogue with players of all EQ2 play styles including crafting, decorating, PvP, solo questing, grouping and yes raiding. From the EQ2 Forums: Hello everyone! We have a new restricted section...
Former creative director of PlanetSide 2 Matt Higby shared his thoughts about the news of Daybreak president John Smedley stepping down on Reddit: It’s tough to overstate how gigantic of an influence Smed has had on my life and the lives of many of my friends, both through the games he helped create, the company he built, the mentorship he shared and the opportunities he opened up. Although we argued about a ton of things over the years, one of the best things about him as a leader is I never felt like I wasn’t allowed to make my...
