Month: April 2012
So if you’ve clicked on this article looking for a transcript of last month’s Game Update 63: Skyshrine Part 1 webcast, we have a last minute change. This won’t be a transcript but a summary. If this seems like bait-and-switch, realize that we tuned into the webcast to see: Holly “Windstalker” Longdale, EQ2 Senior Producer Akil “Lyndro” Hooper, EQ2 Lead Designer Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson, EverQuest Franchise Director of Development and there was a slight change in the guest list to: Kyle “Kander” Vallee, Assistant Lead Designer Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson After the jump, what we were able to take away...
If you have run into the Launchpad problem we reported earlier today, a fix has been rushed through and rolled out today according to Bunji: An updated EXE was pushed out to the US patchers (international patcher updates are still in progress) which should hopefully resolve the issue where you get the pop-up asking you if you want Full or Streaming, but setting you to streaming regardless of your choice. Now if you set your install to full (under ‘Select Game Version', it should stay that way and you shouldn’t receive any pop-ups when launching the client (which would...
This screenshot foretells the coming of Gozer, and a rather unfortunate crossing of the streams. Image provided by Cloudrat NOTICE: This problem has now been resolved. Please run the patcher again, making sure to select “Full Download” in the Game Version setting. I suggest you make a backup of your \EverQuest II\paks folder to another part of their hard drive prior to running the patcher.
We’re a bit late on this, but on April 4th, a new in-game poll was added to EQ2 about the StationCash Marketplace, specifically some items that were previously only available on the Freeport (formerly EQ2X) server. This issue is being discussed on the EQ2 Forums. Here are the contents of that in-game mail: Greetings, Norrathians! Most players spend a lot of time exploring and soloing, or delving into dungeons with a mercenary. There are items that would be extremely useful for these activites that used to be available on the marketplace on the Freeport server. We’d like to hear...
Donna “Danicia” Prior, Social Media Specialist for SOE, has in the past represented Heatwave Interactive, Bioware, and Flying Lab Software at fan events such as GenCon, PAX, as well as the Game Developers Conference. Her most visible change at SOE so far has been the rebranding of the annual Fan Faire event. There has been speculation that the October 18-21, 2012 event will be more marketing and vendor-driven than past events, but otherwise, we are still waiting for all the details of this fan event to be announced. We did take a moment to ask her some questions in...

First reported in July 2011 and again in November 2011, tradeskillers have been reporting the disappearance of recipes from their recipe books, making crafting of those items impossible. Players had found various workarounds to get the recipes to (sometimes) appear, but there was no easy fix. Petitioners were informed that even if a GM made the recipe visible again, it would eventually disappear due to the same bug. The issue was raised again in January of this year, and then last week, Omougi, EQ2’s tradeskill developer, indicated that the issue was being looked into. And here’s the latest update...

Here is your Update Note for April 10, 2012: DUNGEON MAKER Fixed a crash bug with loading layouts in player made dungeons.
Oh look, another StationCash deal… From a note on the EQ2 Launcher and a promotional e-mail from SOE: In other news, the menu bar and navigation on EverQuest2.com now seems to be totally broken in Firefox 3.6.x.
A Sony Corp. logo pictured at an electronic store in Tokyo. (Yuriko Nakao / April 9, 2012) Although it is my understanding that this has no immediate ramifications for Sony Online Entertainment, which has already undergone two rounds of belt-tightening, and recently signed an exclusive European distribution deal with ProSiebenSat.1 which no doubt had financial incentives behind it, this is news that several people have reported in so I’m reposting it. UPDATE: Sony Corp has revised their expected financial losses for 2011 to $6.4 billion. From ArsTechnica: Sony Corp. is planning on cutting loose 10,000 of its employees in...
Repeating last night’s Login and Launcher difficulties, players are reporting that they are getting stuck at the black SOE splash screen when trying to run the EQ2 launcher. No word on SOE’s Facebook page yet.
We’re receiving reports that players aren’t able to progress past the black screen with SOE logo of the EQ2 Launcher. Anyone who is currently logged in is apparently able to stay in, but otherwise, players are having difficulty getting past this splash screen: In possibly related news, the EQ2 forums seem to be down for unscheduled maintenance. UPDATE from Amnerys on SOE’s Twitter 14 minutes ago: Hey everyone! We are currently having some issues with the Launcher and working on getting them fixed as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience! [Amnerys] NOTICE: Some players have been able...
Looks like Double XP has started at Midnight instead of Noon today. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, here’s the evidence:
From EverQuest2.com: With all the new Heroic and Raid content being released in Game Update 63: SKYSHRINE, we just had to go over and get the inside scoop from Assistant Lead Designer Kyle “Kander” Vallee. Piestro: How difficult is the heroic and raid content available in Game Update 63: SKYSHRINE? Is this targeted at only the more advanced players or will this content be suitable for every skill level? Kander: We are really making an effort to see that heroic content is broadly accessible to everyone and try to cover every play style, from the causal solo player to the group player who wants...
From Lyndro on the EQ2 Forums: The new AA curve is mostly based on the amount of AA experience most people earn when they reach 90. For people who start up new characters (new players or alts), we’d much prefer they have fun playing the game rather than mentoring down to grind their way up to 280. This isn’t really compelling gameplay, and we don’t see a whole lot of value in perpetuating it. We’d much prefer that when the bulk of people “finish” (Finish is a tough term to define and is loaded and open to lots of...

When the ProSiebenSat.1 deal was announced, it was indicated that some EQ2 servers would be IP locked. Existing EU players would be grandfathered into continuing to play on US servers, but US players would not be able to continue to play on EU servers. The IP locking (SOE was careful not to use this term) applied to the servers. After this announcement went over like mustard-flavored ice cream, SOE went away for 2 1/2 months and came back with a different approach. Servers will NOT be region-locked, accounts will be. So if you try to login to your SOE...
From Piestro on the EQ2 Forums: As to PvP changes, at one time these were tenatively planned for GU63. Unfortunately the scope of GU63 meant that PvP changes would not be feasible to include, because GU63 has so much in it already. I don’t want to go ahead and promise they’ll be in GU64 (because it’s too early for that), but this is a matter I will continue to discuss with the Development team. I’ll continue to note feedback we recieve and bring issues up on a regular basis.
From the EQ2 Forums: Important: We will perform maintenance that will affect the Nagafen server beginning at 4:00 AM Pacific* on Thursday, April 5, 2012. We expect this maintenance to last approximately 6 hours. We apologize for this interruption and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.
If you’ve been concerned about how much AA XP grinding you’ll have to run this upcoming Double XP weekend to prepare for Game Update 63, it looks we’re about to be graded on a curve. As per a Test Update Note and discussion thread on In Testing Feedback, it looks like the AA Experience Curve is being flattened: We have modified the AA XP tables reducing the amount of experience necessary for advancement levels 1 to 280. When you log in your character they will be converted from the old tables to the new tables this will cause most...
And we thought they’d forgotten… From the EQ2 Forums: GENERAL All single group instances now have a lockout of 90 minutes. Fixed a bug where lingering dot effects from dead and looted NPCs could start critting. PLAYER HOUSING Marketplace housing deeds will now include the maximum number of placed items, prior to using house expanders, in the description. Increased item limit for Researcher’s Sanctum to 600. ITEMS Drunder x4 priest breastplates (non-Challenge mode) can now proc Celestial Restoration III.
