At last year’s Fan Faire, Leko, champion of PvP balance, stood up after Mercenaries were announced and asked “Will Mercenaries work in PvP?” and then a series of questions about how they would be balanced, tested, etc. Well…better late than never. 🙂
From Gninja:
While I can’t really address everything being said in this post right now I can say we have been taking a look and we have a plan on how to make mercs not quite as overpowered in PVP combat as they are currently. Once we get the fix in place and we can accurately test it I can lay out the plan for you guys.
If you die to a merc you should not take damage to your gear. This will be addressed asap and we should be getting some power tweaks for them out to you as we can.
Looks like a lot of the complaints in that thread are simply the fact that mercs are massively overpowered for any sub-90 content, including PVP. Even twinked and over-AAed characters can’t compete with a merc, to say nothing of regular characters.
Whether we’re talking PVP or PVE, the low level game is no longer about what your character can do, it’s about which merc you brought.
I do not play the PVP side of the game anymore after KoS I just didn’t care for it too much. What I can not understand is what is so difficult for SOE to understand it is PLAYER vs PLAYER it is that for a reason and after putting a massively overpowered computer AI in there to team up with you no longer have PVP.
Mercs shouldn’t be allowed in PvP at all. What is the point in Player vs. Player combat if computer controlled NPC’s are allowed to participate?
But will still drop coin?
At 90, PVP with mercs is ok. But at low level PVP, it’s insanely OP.
at no level is PVP ok with mercs that use an AI. What part of Player vs Player are you having a hard time comprehending?
