Freeport, Qeynos Guards Packing Heat — and to Speak as a Dragon

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Grouping, Raiding

With every expansion, a few of the guards in Qeynos and Freeport, especially the “stronghold” or most-defended area of each city, in this case North Qeynos and East Freeport, are dinged to a level that would make them perilous to invaders of the opposing alignment.

So imagine our surprise when we logged in after Game Update 55 (coinciding with Sentinel’s Fate) and found that every man, woman, and child guarding the cities of Qeynos and Freeport, in every area of the city, all magically dinged level 95. These guards are packing heat!

The ramifications of this change are felt not just by players wanting to step out of their guild hall (which may be in opposing territory) to buy a few items directly from people’s houses, to avoid the broker fee, but also by level 30’s-50’s players wanting to complete Heritage Quests which have always required sneaking into the opposite faction’s city.

These quests are now nearly impossible to complete at their intended levels by the opposing side:

Kander gives us this update:

We are looking at the guards, hope to have this adjusted ASAP.

I think the access quest should be removed now as well. I will see what can be done.

This would be ironic since the Epic Repercussions quest to convert your mythical into a spell also requires the Draconic language.

Windslasher in the meantime is making tweaks to make it possible to complete even with the guards set at 95:

I’m clearing the roadblocks for this quest now. I prefer to make changes with a scalpel rather than a battleaxe, so I’ve altered stuff as little as possible while still (hopefully) solving the problems. I’m starting with the following two changes:

First of all, I fixed the guards in the Academy of Arcane Science. The two front door guards are lower level so you can invis past them, and the skeletons on the inside were moved to corners so that you can avoid them. The gargoyles are still 95, but they were always spread out enough that you could get around them.

Second, the doors to the obelisk no longer require the access quest if it’s gray to you. So if you’re level 50, the first door will automatically open and if you’re 55 the inner one opens for you too. I figure this will clear the way for pretty much everyone who’s actually doing the draconic language quest now.

I can’t guarantee the exact schedule when this will be hotfixed, but the current ETA is Thursday.
