Producer’s Letter: Darkness Dawns comes early…with more!

From the EQ2 Forums:

To all beloved Norrathians!

We are happy to announce that we are almost ready with GU67: Darkness Dawns, so much so that we decided to launch a week early on Tuesday, July 23! We also thought this would give everyone a chance to play the content before SOE Live (soe.com/soelive) on August 1-4!

Not only that, but the once-mentioned Loyalty/Rewards program we were working on earlier in the year is finally where we want it. We expect to be launching that with GU67 if not very soon afterward. That has become a Daily Objectives system that will reward you for doing the types of content most players do in every play session, be it adventure, quest, tradeskill, and PvP. In this system, we will reward tokens that you can spend on reasonably priced merchants in Freeport and Qeynos that will carry reasonable priced items – some of them veteran’s rewards — and mystery crates with chances to really great loot. We’ll give you more details on this closer to launch!

Also, as I expect someone will ask, this new system is ultimately an addition to veteran’s rewards we give each year for account age. We will still continue to offer a commemorative veteran’s item each year in November for players.

We’ll see you in game the day Darkness Dawns on July 23!

I am thoroughly meh on the GU, but I’ve been looking forward to this new rewards program for a while. If it is done well, I might very well have a reason to actually do stuff again.
I am all about appearance fluff things.

every new release is getting more and more mediocre. rehash rehash rehash. Is that all this company is capable of? Taking others ideas and recreating content out of old ideas.

I get the impression that the creative energy has been siphoned off to eqnext =(

So, another half-tested update, with ill-considered systems that folks really don’t seem to want and content that probably goes stale that day.

It’s getting really damn hard to look forward to new stuff for this game.

Sounds like they are using the daily system that Guildwars 2 (possibly among others) has been using for a couple months now.

GW2’s system doesn’t require any special quests or anything. Finishing any 5 of 20ish objectives/goals during the 24-hour period gets you the reward, and the objectives/goals are simple things that everyone does like “Get X numbers of kills,” “Cure X number of conditions,” and “Interrupt X number of attacks.”

For the brief time I played GW2, I liked the daily system for the most part. At the time I played, you only got gold (or silver – depending on your level) – not tokens for buying stuff.

The daily and monthly was bundled tasks – don’t complete one of the tasks, and you don’t get the reward at all. I hope EQ2 doesn’t do that.

Other problems I had with the GW2 system was the reset time – it was at 7pm my time – not enough time after I got home to complete the tasks, and not really enough time after it reset before I fell asleep at my keyboard (I get up at 5am, so I go to bed pretty early). So I often didn’t get the dailies done – I tried to look at it as a bonus and not a requirement 🙂

The monthly tasks often included PVP, which I didn’t do – so I missed out on the monthly. With EQ2, I don’t want to be forced to run a BG or do some other task to finish up a set of tasks. I think giving tokens for each task would be fine – but bundling them up together for a bigger reward, and then not being able to complete one section of it would suck.

The other issue with the GW2 daily was it was account based – you could work toward completing the daily on any alt. You got a reward based on whichever toon finished the daily for the account – so it was important to remember to log on your highest toon to complete the daily so you would get more coin. (Probably won’t be an issue with EQ2’s implementation)

i hope this is a good GU67 . i liked the zombie otters but seems soe was flat on instances . to make instances better it only needs to drop a nice mount or very nice appearance gear most will wont these and group to get it . just looting gear most would never wear does nothing for a zone . i miss the old days of zones like vigilant and ZA . those were the great days of fighting hard to clear a zone and i really didn’t care about the loot . it was the thrill of taking on a good zone .

They need to FIRE that woman producer, she is off the plantation. funny as hell she was showing the same ole same ole at live and NO ONE clapped she had to basically ask for applause from the crowd. next xpansion looks like more of NOTHING! but you will have to buy the stupid xpac just to get the aa tree ….again. Hmmm looks like eq2 is going to bleed to death with the way things are going. a Channeler a Healer? really? has SOE been eating bath salts again. Channeler is a MAGE class. Defilers are Mage class as well not a shaman, Defilers supposed to be a Mage that consumes life and energy from there surroundings to power themselves, Basically siphoning everything around them. SOE needs to call these classes something else they are very misleading.

id like to see a psionic class added but they would probably make it some kind of scout class LMAO.

Channelers are kinda like a mage but they Weave abilities. basically the switch from one class to another depending on what abilities they weave. for each point of int or wis they loose to gain combat skills dark energy glows from there eyes. they can converge to being a scout, warrior or preficient in melee skills. there abilities are not of the mage class though they do have some mage style abilites. The more points of true power they consume the more powerfull they become in what weave they gain power in.

close to right on the defiler though, they absorb magic and makes there abilites more powerfull, fighting one of these can make you dead fast, especially if your a mage. The absorb energy of powerfull attacks from other classes with special abilities that give off energy, They do have some absorb abilites like siphoning such as absorb vitias thats steals sta and strength , and a power drain, that power is not replenishment for himself though it just doubles the power of his own abilities.
