With the upcoming reduction in lockout timers from 18 hours to 90 minutes for Destiny of Velious group zones, players will be searching for the best “bang for the buck” dungeons where they might seek item upgrades.
Assuming you have already farmed the Public Quests, specifically Ring War and Storm Gorge, you’ve probably moved on to the Velious Dungeons. Game Update 61 introduced Rare Names which have a 25% chance of spawning after certain conditions are met (usually killing at least one named). Furthermore, the rare loot is shared between the rare names making up a dungeon “group”.

Can You Solo or Duo It?
Depending on your gear, it’s possible to solo or duo the first named in Forgotten Pools with a mercenary, potentially unlocking the Murk Kybur which is an easy kill. Note that this first named (Aeri’ondi the Infectious) basically ignores magic damage, so choose your classes and mercs wisely.
The Legendary loot is nothing to write home about, but the Fabled items are exceptional for the zone’s difficulty.

Your Turn
Have you got mob locations for these mobs, or know what mobs have to be killed to spawn these rare names? Post your comment on this web zone and we’ll update the article!
“Two players with 2 mercenaries favoring a non-magical setup (magic damage is basically ignored) can make ready work of the first named in Forgotten Pools, potentially unlocking the Murk Kybur. The Legendary loot is nothing to write home about, but the Fabled items are exceptional for the zone’s difficulty.”
Duo it??? Why duo it when it can be soloed on my necro, and even easier solo’ed I use the Pally merc. Sure it’s not “ready work”, but first named takes 8 mins 2nd takes 9, and all the rewards are mine to keep or sell…
I haven’t done any of these dungeons, but “magic damage is basically ignored” sounds a bit unfair towards certain classes.
I solo Pools everyday on my warden with monk merc. Even if the rare named is not up I still clear to the key mob and get my shard and 6 or 7 plat.
Shouldn’t a Guide contain something about where in the zone the mobs spawn?
I wrote the guide from the perspective of the player who is not overgeared for the zone. I personally am wearing ToFS x2 jewelry and full Ry’Gorr so it’s not a problem.
It wasn’t a sleight. Aeri’ondi the Infectious, the first named in Pools, basically absorbs all magic damage.
EQ2 Zam doesn’t have the location information for these and I drew a blank on EQ2i. If people post mob locations, I’ll absolutely update the article with this information.
It’s an MMO.
Very nice guide,thank you!
Sweetness. You rock Feldon.
Some of the super easy locations for the Rares:
Ascent: The rare mob spawns on the bridge area after defeating the Witch Doctor, but you will have to defeat the 2 horsemen, to get back to him. If you use tracking in the hallway before the bridge, you can see if the rare named has popped.
Fortress Spire: The rare named is located in the water off the docks. You will just need to kill the first named and clear your way to rare spawn point.
Iceshard Keep: Kill the guy at entrance and run into the big room and the rare named is in the first room to your left… the easiest rare pop check around.
Spire of Rage: The rare named spawns after killing the trinity (second named encounter in zone). You should be able to use tracking to see if the rare has spawned after taking the elevator up. You will need to clear your way to the room containing Hamslammer. You do not have to kill Hamslammer and can just skip him to run up to the rare named. ALSO you should be able to invis past most trash in drunder… its a great little trick that speeds these zone runs up considerably.
I approve of your treasure boob.
If the rare mob in ToS is going to spawn, what particular mob kill(s) if any will enable it?
Leave it to Atan to point out what that treasure pile looks like, and now it’s burned in my brain. =)
for the locations, check eq2map, I’ve been adding the spots (with notes) as I’ve confirmed them for the last few months.
From Koleg on the EQ2 Forums:
The CCC rare spawns to the right of the first mob. It is one of the tree root things, you can’t miss it – more likely you will insta-spawn it it’s so close to where the name is at. Very easy kill and quick.
Spire of Rage location is -75,201,6.
TY Feldon.
I saw Koleg’s note on the forum. I now kill only Allectus, (pull him down to the moat around the throne), then check visually for the rare mob in Gunnr’s room. Since half elf tracking won’t show it, I have to kill the single trash mob at the top of Gunnr’s staircase to get a look. Can’t squeeze by it.
