From MattMeyer on the Station forums (also posted on the EQ2 forums):
A new version of the LaunchPad 4 (4.0.0.421) has been released with the following updates.
EverQuest II Character Select
Character Select now works again in the EverQuest II LaunchPad. Characters will be present in the Select a character dropdown that have been logged into game within the last few months and displayed in the order of when they were last played. If the account has no characters on it, or you have no account logged in at all, nothing will be displayed to click on. If you have more than 5 characters in the list you can cycle through them via the NEXT and BACK options at the bottom of the display.
Bug Fixes
There were some cosmetic fixes made under the covers, but there was one visible feature that is now fixed. If you had previously selected the Remeber Me option at the login screen for an account successive new logins for different accounts would see that checkbox selected by default. This is no longer the case.
This update is automatic for all players, whether you choose to use the Streaming or Full Download versions of Launchpad 4.
Glad to see they got this in, seemed to be one of the most missed features when switching to LP4.
Yeah, and greet, it doesn’t work. At least not on my Storms char.
Squeek!
That looks like my character list, only ratongas! 😀
I’d like a checkbox: [x] close Launchpad after game starts
Does not work with my EU Account, Loggs in to Charakter Select Menu. Nothing More
Now if they can add a friends list and instant messing ability, it’d be like having station launcher back.
Small step in the right direction, works nice it seems.
If my launch pad would actually launch the game, this would be great.
Well It works its to bad they dont replace those stupid scrolling adds with the character list but at least it is a step in the right dirrection.
5 attempts at using char-select – all attempts go to char-select screen
Char-selection screen. Great job again…
Doesn’t seem to work with EU server (at least with the french one)
They just said they were putting it in. No one promised that it would work!
Took 3 times of using character select, before I finally got the launcher to launch the game. The first 2 the launcher crashed and burned. Oh well.
It works on my US characters but not on my EU ones.
First step in the SoE/PSS1-deal community segregation plan?
🙂
When you’re trying to log in with your EU chars do you have the right region selected? Don’t have any EU chars but when I have US region selected it still shows my characters on test.
Yes, I switched region versions before checking. It’s so quick to do that now, literally a second or two compared to re-installing the whole game under the old launcher!
the new Launchpad generally is a piece of crap- I wonder which Framework they used to build it – probably some Apple crap, or Flash.
Wow, cool. They are actually putting back in features we had in 2004.
Yes it does seem to be “back to the future” doesnt it?
Still nice to have the option back again
Next button not working on my end. Step in the right direction I guess, but talk about slow progress.
@Nyna
They abandoned flash for version 4. They used it in 3, but flash tends to have memory leaks and lags in most cases because adobe hasn’t fixed the holes in their code in a long time. For version 4 I don’t know what they switched to, but it’s less laggy at least, but that’s only a slight improvement. We still got some people saying it don’t launch. I never had a problem launching the game personally, but if i did, my solution would be to have 2 shortcuts. 1 to the launcher, and 1 for everquest2.exe, so I can update the game with the first one, and launch it with the other. lol
They’ve fixed the problem with non-US servers, and the character select version now works on those servers.
At present you see all your characters across all versions of the game, and if you inadvertently select a character on say a EU server while the launcher is set for the US version (which is easily done with duplicated names) it results in a “world cannot be found” error. SOE are looking at amending it on the next release so it only shows the characters available on the version you are running.
Seems to have been fixed tonight. Didn’t work on Storms server yesterday and DO work today
That’s good news Seffrid. Reaching my Test chars is a pain as, for whatever reason, they never show on top ven if they were the last played.
Not related to this post, but perhaps a news tip. Has anyone seen the Producers’ Letter from the GDC Industry Mixer? http://stationblog.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/producers-letter-gdc-industry-mixer/
I don’t know if it was common knowledge or not, but I was interested to learn that Terry Michaels was the Producer of EQNext.
EQnext has good and bad. read the “Ten Years of EverQuest” interviews at
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/news/tags/EQ10YrInterviews/1
You can tell which producers had/have actually played the games the helped make. That goes along way in my book.
Bootlee,
A lot can change in 3 years.
Bet SJ cant grow facial hair in 3 years. 😛
And without Tony Garica I don’t care about EQnext anyways.
Thanks for the GDC link.
The Planetside2 guy doesn’t even smile … he looks like he should be in an action flick.
It is a little unsettling that the last five games Holly worked on were all games involving teenage girls … Hannah Montana being the last.
If anyone ever gets the chance to go to GDC, do it. Best time ever. I think they have gotten a lot more strict on who can go now, though. Too bad.
Has anyone had problems logging in 2 boxes with the launcher lately… always ties to log in 2 of the same account for me.
