From Domino on the EQ2 Forums:
I spent the afternoon today lurking around listening in channels, including the homeshow channel, and heard quite a few comments about some changes to water textures and reflections. (Thanks to all who provided details!)
I talked to GermInUSA, who has been working on improving water and reflections lately. The quick fix is to turn on this display option:
Ctrl-O (open your options); click the advanced button; under the display options, in the “water” section, tick the “water reflections” tick box. (Despite the name, this also affects non-water reflections.)
This should fix the odd reflections and opaque water on aquariums and such.
Longer term, now he’s seen the problem, he will be looking into making improvements in how it looks even with the “water reflections” box unticked also, as it might be on lower graphics settings.
One a slightly different note though, does anyone see any real measureable difference in performance with the water reflections on or off?
I was trying it out in the sea in Velious on my laptop, whereas the GPU there isn’t beefy enough for the new graphics features (I lost 1/3rd of my frame rate with the ambient occulosion thing) the 2.4Ghz core 2 duo and ATI HD2600 runs with or without water reflections the same speed.
Its nice to see them actually working too, some of my earliest screenshots showed the water reflections were bugged back then (RoK days) due to the reflections being shifted to the side slightly. Its almost a little off putting to see them working correctly 😉
