Due to the widespread changes to Itemization in Game Update 61 for level 20-90 items (including Sentinel’s Fate and Velious gear which were rushed for inclusion), a complementary Global Unattune was provided.
This was supposed to include every item including Equipment, Appearance, Inventory (bags), and your Bank. However this did not quite work out that way, at least not permanently. Players have discovered that when they login for the first time, most or all of their items are Unattuned, but if they log out that character and log back in, all Bank items get Reattuned. Why?
Rothgar explains:
The issue is that there’s an in-memory representation of an item and a database representation of the item. The bug lies somewhere between the in-memory item getting unattuned but the database update is failing. Unless you do something to force the item to be saved, which doesn’t happen unless you modify an item (damage/repair, use a charge, etc) then the item [won’t stay unattuned]
So when you login, the script is telling your computer that the items are unattuned in your Bank. But nobody’s telling the database server. So the next time you fetch your character, everything’s all attuned again. Clear as mud?
Rather than do a complete Unattune of all items again, which would probably lead to the kicking of small furry animals, Rothgar has indicated that next update (likely Tuesday), there will be an OPTIONAL Unattune on each of your characters if you wish to take advantage of this.
From Rothgar on the EQ2 Forums:
First let me apologize for the issues we’ve had recently when attempting to unattune your items.
The unattuning process was meant to be a curtesy to all the players because of the changes that the items are going through. It wasn’t something we had to do, but we wanted to do so you’d have the opportunity to sell or trade an item that no longer has value to you.
Unfortunately, as you know, we’ve had some issues with that process not persisting when you log off. We rushed to fix this problem for this morning’s hotfix and a bug with the process still exists.
We know that this has been an inconvenience for some of you. We’ve decided to modify this procedure to give you a choice as to whether or not you want to have your items unattuned. (Adornments will no longer pop off since that process worked fine). We will take the time to make sure this is working correcly and push this change out with next week’s hotfix, most likely on Tuesday.
So, this is what you can expect to happen. When you log in after the next hotfix, you’ll be presented with an option to unattune your items. If you click Yes, all items will be unattuned and any items that were equipped will go into your overflow slot. If you click No, we will leave your items as they are.
Again, I’m very sorry for this inconvenience but we will make it right.
Except that to damage the item, you’d have to re-attune it and then go die, but that defeats the purpose because now the item is attuned again.
Fight tox and live. Tox hard mode damages your gear and you dont have to die. This kinda sucks that it takes 3 tries to get it right.
From Rothgar:
“We’re not going to do a mass unattune again.
Instead, in next week’s hotfix, we’re going to pop up a dialog and allow you to unattune (once) voluntarily, if you so desire.”
I guess they were trying to minimize the outage time, what they should have done was run the script against the database and once it had completed allow access. Instead we have a buggy kludge of running a script by each client that logs in. I wonder what will happen to people that have not logged in due to vacations and log in for the first time in a week or so, will their items be attuned or unattuned?
I found that the items i moved from the bank to the shared bank stayed unattuned.
there better be some type of bonus xp, as I just spent about 6 hours between 2 days and now were going to have to do this again??
well I for one am very glad that we got the unattune that happened, even though it was buggy and they have had a lot of troubles with it (6 years of coding by different people and trying to figure out another persons code and modify it can easily cause all kinds of hidden code) but dispite all the troubles they are working with it till it’s right and that is a good thing because it is sorting out the code and making it more efficient at the same time.
Rothgar: Thanks for working on it and sorry it is being such a pain in the as…… ummm… tooshie :-)!
To the whiners: Relax, you got a bunch of adorns back. Have a little faith in “The Almighty Rothgar”.
Rothgar you are a frigging moron! I just spent 2 and a half hour resetting my AAs on my Conjuror only to have it rest its self. You idiots should be fired and people with intelligence put in your place. It is painfully obvious that your do not have the necessary level of intelligence to program a game as complex as Everquest. You should be writing stories for idiots. SoE would do well to fire you and every other Developer that worked on this F*cked up expansion. This is more that an Inconvenience. But I do have to agree with you on one thing… YOU ARE SORRY! Probably the sorriest moron ever.
You are a Moron studying to be an Idiot but will never quite make Stupid!!
REQUEST TO SoE…. FIRE THEM NOW!!
Well Rothgar is working with whatever he has available. There is alot of different type of coding due to changes in software and everything else. I think they should have waited another month to release this. I dont always agree with what he says, but you have to think about this. He is told what people in charge of him want. He can say well the playerbase wants this feature but if his boss wants the opposite then thats what he has to do, then he has to filter through all the hate and nasty messages on the forums. Seeing that can distract you from seeing the more pressing issues and great ideas. I had my warden’s aa set in about 15 mins. I knew this would happen so I just took a screenshot. It wont get you anything to say I hate you, or fire so and so.
hmmm. Think I may extend my break from EQ2 by another week. It makes no sense to log in and deal with thid mess.
@Paul
I think you need to find yourself another purpose in life. To become so aggressive for such a futility is beyond me.
It’s not the unattuning I’m concerned about – it’s the random Stat changes! I’ve got items that were +Wis/Sta which are suddenly +Int/Sta. Conjurors are reporting the opposite, SKs getting +Agi/Sta, etc. It’s a shambles. I worked hard, and spent DKP, to get nice Fabled healer gear – now it’s only fit for a (shudder0 caster. This sucks to the ultimate level of suckiness.
I listen to the complaints about the change in gear stats and say to myself “but at least you have some gear to complain about”. For 2 of my toons, I lost all the gear they were equipped with. Nope, its not in their bags, their bank, nor in the door to their house. Nowhere can I find it.It wasn’t the top gear they were using. It was stuff I wanted to have unattuned and have the adornments pop off. Worked too well. The gear popped off me completely to never be seen again. I have 5 more toons that are roughly of the same level and type. I’m afraid to look at them cause I’m afraid the same thing may have happened to them also. I have a petition in on this but all I have is the canned we’ll get back to you answer. 🙁
And the AA thing is still buggy – had three guildies last night go to a different zone and half their AAs would reset.
@Lincus
Did you check your overflow slot? It’s in the bottom-left corner of your toon’s picture when you bring up your character screen?
I’d rather they take extra time and do something right than have yet another update where things go wrong for a week. Like this BS with people being stuck in guild halls? How did that make it live? Oh yeah, I remember now. It’s because we ignored the test server feedback…again.
How about we instill a new chain for things to be tested!
Dev codes –> QA thoroughly tests it. –> Test server –> Dev fixes —> QA —> Test ———-> weeks later is patched to live with minimal bugs.
Is this really so hard to do?
I assign no fault to the technical people on this, as I doubt they were the ones to put an inexperienced person on itemization AGAIN, running a buggy script, then push the resulting hot mess live without resolving the massive pile of issues they were repeatedly told existed.
This is management’s fault. Yet another reason to want Smokeblower and Smed -GONE-.
@Lincus: It’s in your overflow inventory.
@Arcturys
Do you really think I’m that dumb to not look there? lol. Thats where it should be. Only 2 items were there for each toon and they were appearance items only. Nice thought.
Not only did the second unattune attempt fail, the AA reset failed for some to. After the hotfix I redid all my AAs on 4 toons, only to find that on my necro the summoner and necro trees had reset yet again after I logged out and back in.
I play games to have fun and enjoy my free time, and have been ever since i left this game well behind me. Gotta say I certainly don’t miss this aggravation. Well back to my stress free gaming.
Later.
so on Tuesday are they going to unattune if you want also will the adonments pop off, also i still have some gear that unattuned but they have adonments on them
Sounds nice but you make me nervous when you talk about it all going “correcly”. )
