With GU61 right around the corner (Tuesday, 23 Aug 2011), SmokeJumper has posted a note on the official forums warning players of some of the changes that will have an immediate impact on players. Read on to see what Smokejumper had to say and our commentary on ways to prepare.

Hi, folks,
All this info will be in the release notes also, but we wanted to let you know that there will be some important things to be aware of that occur once GU 61 goes live next week.
Here they are:
The re-itemization of all items between levels 20-90 mean that a couple things have to occur as we change the item details:
- All ATTUNED items must become UNATTUNED. The side-benefit of this means that you’ll be able to swap all your ATTUNED stuff around after this update until you once again ATTUNE that item to a character.
- All items worn *at the time of the update* and *that have adornments on them* will have those adornments popped off and returned to your inventory. You can then easily just pop them back into another item. You will not lose anything, but adorns will need to be reset for items that you have currently equipped *only*.
Additionally, because of the AA changes that are happening in this update, *all AA points are reset* as of the update. So the next time you log in, just be aware that you’ll need to respend your AA points.
So all in all, it’s not a bad thing. You get to move previously ATTUNED items around, reset the adorns in some of your equipment, and reshuffle your AA points.
But we wanted you to be aware that it would happen so you weren’t surprised.
Commentary
If I’m reading this right, there is a bit of prep work you may want to do prior to this going live, such as:
-
- Take screen shots of each AA tree on each of your characters. Once GU61 hits, they will all be reset and you won’t be able to see what you had before.
- Take off all your currently equipped gear that has adornments. Once GU61 hits, all the adornments will be taken off any equipped items. Unless you want to figure out which adornments go where, unequip your gear.
- Equip any items you no longer use that have adornments. Since the adornments get taken off of equipped gear, might as well make the best of it and see if you can recover some adornments.
If you do the prep work before hand, this shouldn’t be a big deal and may actually be a decent benefit. If you don’t do the prep work, this may be a decent sized hassle come next Tuesday.
GU61 is probably going to be the worst game update in history. Since the devs of EQ2 rarely test anything properly, and never listen to player feedback, I’m going to safely assume a lot of things will be broken with this Game Update, and not work properly.
I’m also assuming that the AA changes are going to hurt a lot of classes. Summoners in particular that are having a 10-20% DPS nerf because apparently we DPS too much and SOE hated it. I’m also seeing a lot of other class having their AA’s shuffled around and seeing a net DPS loss, but it looks like Summoners are getting the blunt of the AA nerf.
Glad to see Sony still hates Summoner classes.
No, it will be the best one yet, and changing EQ2 for the best. Much needed changes.
/sigh – nuff said
Straw. Camel. Back.
Whilst I agree that the AA changes could be bad and buggy we won’t know for sure till they hit Live so I’ll reserve comment. However I’m quite happy about the Unattuning as it’ll let me recover adorns from unused kit and pass some stuff to alts.
At least the announcement allows us to be prepared by taking AA screenshots etc. Kudos for SOE actually communicating with us for once.
>>Summoners in particular that are having a 10-20% DPS nerf
No.
never understood why so many complain about all the changes each time soe does one, yet they still logg on and play.
if soe made each update to what each person who plays this game wants, there would be no game, and i myself cant for the life of me figure out why soe isnt sick of all the crap they get for each thing they do and wash there hands of it all!
Odd, I did not know that EQ2Wire was telling its posters how often and when people are logging into the game.
Well said Patty….of course there are going to be the odd glitches, but they will get sorted in time!
Summoners and their wayward pets are a pain in the butt to gps, its about time they were nerfed down! Died more times than i care to recall cos some idiot summoner has sent his/her pet in too early, or lifeburned too soon and distracted the healer from the main point of the encounter ie kill the mob, not wipe the gp.
As for the comment ‘sony hates summoners’ haha, so funny!
So if I am understanding this right you can have your main raid gear in your bags, And they will just be unattuned. But still have the adorns left on them for easy reequipping and attuning.
Just a little concerned about loosing the adorns of of my raid gear if its in my bags at time of update.
So I’m guessing we’ll need to equip any old items that we’ll want to trade over that to alts have war runes in them, since even when the item is not attuned it is no-trade with a war rune adorning it.
No? You must not have been looking at the Summoner – in particular Necromancer AA redesign. Pet Spell Double Attack is being removed – all the things that empowers the pet is being removed. Necromancer pets are getting a -15% HP nerf (as if they didn’t have low HP as it was).
10-20% DPS nerf when it’s all figured in.
Pay more attention.
When I read this I see a possibility of having all adorned items not worn, to not only be unattuned but also have those with adornments have the adornments removed permanently…. could happen with the wording I see in the post. In other words you will only be able to keep the adornments on the actual items equipped.
So as a Necro, is the nerf bat surgically implanted in the back of our heads or something?
I wonder if un-attuning all the gear our alts are wearing means we’ll all be appearing in the buff across Norrath until we finish retooling everything. (?)
Multi Attack getting Nerf!?
I was just on test server and my character there has 217 MA (with everything unequipped). When I floated over the MA description, it says something to the effect of : “You will attack ONE additional time, with a 16% chance for an addional attack”.
Is the display for Multiattack displaying incorrectly? or does this mean that 200% is required for ONE extra attack and 100% = Nothing? Shouldn’t it read: “You will attack TWO addtional times with a 17% chance for an additiona (third) attack”?
If it’s working as intended, then MA is getting a HUGE nerf.
So if I have yellow crit mit adorns on old PQ gear can I put them back on have the adorns pop of and then put them on my new Rygor gear?
There’s a lot of SPECULATION about the severity of summoner nerfing set to occur, but I was unable to locate any official data revealing that detailed of class specific changes. Maybe it’s out there but more likely people are getting all worked up about what they imagine could happen.
As for the claim that Sony hates (insert class) – I hear that EXACT same statement every damned time the slightest change is made to any class. Every player of that class rails on and on about the injustices poured out upon that class and that class only. Seriously, get a job…..
Anyhow, I am quite excited, myself, about what I think has the potential to be the best GU yet. This excitement is, of course, based on actual details of the update =)
NotCryingHere,
The comments here about GU61 are from people who have actually logged into Test and looked at the changes.
If you will only believe “official” numbers from SOE devs, you might be waiting a long time. SOE generally does not comment on Mechanics changes.
Amuller,
Yes.
