Servers are now offline, and all players have been sent packing 90 minutes after today’s Game Update was scheduled to begin. Those players who stuck around (as well as those who logged in later hoping to see the new Gliders and Leapers), chatted, dueled, and a few made progress in Kael Drakkel contested.
UPDATE: A post from SmokeJumper regarding the Content Distribution Network (CDN):
Working on it. It’s a problem with the CDN. Fixing.
Apparently, Storms players (Thanks Whilhelmina!) received an announcement that their server won’t be patched for several hours still.
No Warning before the crash either. SOE are Amateur. I was so close to the end of Warfields. Where is my faction? We were winning.
Thanks, Feldon, for being on top of this, as usual. I find it’s always quicker to look here to find out what’s up than anywhere else, including by poking around at soe official pages (bleh). The moment my launcher was balking, I figured, rightly, real information would pop up here shortly.
Staying tuned…
I would say they are far from Amateur. With complexity of the SOE network in a rapidly changing environment, I would say they are doing a spot on job with minor problems that are resolved quickly.
Not to mention, I would imagine there was more than a few updates to the network structure due to the security breach. Trying to keep up with that cannot be an easy task.
I work in computer operations. Planned outages need to be announced ahead of time. If you miss the window like they did today. You need to send out a correction and a new notification to your customers. This is what I meant by amateur. It’s called “change control” people. Employees were I work would get fired for actions like this.
Abso-flipping-lutely fantastic. Servers down in Europe at 23:00 on a Friday evening. Down for 2 hours.
And we wonder why the Servers are so empty?
