From Rothgar on the EQ2 Forums:
I just wanted to post another update and post-mortem for the Unrest merge explaining a few of the issues that occurred.
With the Unrest merge, we had to make a change to our process that we didn’t do with Everfrost. This change was what led to all of the issues we experienced last night. It was a minor change, but its a lesson learned that even those minor things can cause lots of headaches. Fortunately there were no major problems, just more things we had to fix that caused us to go past our ETA and still deal with some of the issues this morning.
This change also led to the “rename” bug that we just discovered and was the cause for the world crash that happened around 2pm PST.
So, I think we’ve found the last of the issues but we are going to spend a little more time actively looking for issues to be sure we’ve caught everything.
I also wanted to reassure everyone that is going to be part of an upcoming merger that these issues won’t be a problem. The change we made last night was unique to the Unrest/Najena merge and isn’t necessary for the other worlds.
Thanks again for your patience throughout this downtime. I’m confident that these issues will be water under the bridge within a couple of days and everyone will be enjoying the new servers with your extended EQII family.
