KUNARK ASCENDING

Norrath remains in danger from Lanys T’Vyl, God of Malice, and her pursuit of power! Return to Kunark and adventure through unexplored lands full of strife as a powerful force of iksar plan to overthrow the lich emperor, Venril Sathir. Uncover dungeons long sealed or lost, amassing power and piecing together the history long buried, in an attempt to keep the last Chaos Stone out of Lanys’ evil clutches!

It will take great courage to stand against the coming darkness and stop her from ushering in a new age of dominance by the gods. When the Tenets of Hate ascend to godhood, will you stand against them?

Kunark Ascending is the 13th EverQuest II expansion and brings new and exciting adventures to Norrath.

Journey to Obulus Frontier in North Kunark where you’ll explore the ruins of Kaesora, fight through the Crypt of Dalnir in Warslik Woods, traverse the City of Mist, and adventure through more areas both familiar and undiscovered!

Kunark Ascending Preview: Raids

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Expansion News

From EverQuest2.com:

A struggle exists between the gods. Lanys T’Vyl, upon being resurrected, has summoned forth the once forgotten demigods Terris-Thule and Saryrn using the remnants of power from their planes, forming a new realm dubbed Vaedenmoor. Along with these powerful beings, some of their followers have reemerged to protect them. The fearsome Hobgoblins, Shades, as well as the Kaniz werewolves will defend their newly formed plane to the death… preferably yours!

There are six raid zones to discover, from the magical Arcanna’se Spire, to the former cities of Kaesora and Torsis; from new and difficult foes in the decaying Crypts of Dalnir in the depths of Obulus Frontier, to the newly formed plane Vaedenmoor where you will face planar beings of unimaginable power. If you are powerful enough to master this new plane, you will be allowed to enter the Heart of Nightmares where the Avatars of Torment and Nightmares await. This realm is a maze of puzzles and powerful beings with new and exciting treasures waiting to be discovered.

News for Time-Locked Stormhold and Race-to-Trakanon Servers

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, TLE/Prestige Servers

trakanon10

From Kander on the EQ2 Forums:

Coming November 22nd for Stormhold [TLE].

  • Shard of Hate [Raid]
  • Runnyeye: The Gathering [Heroic]
  • Veksar: The Invasion [Heroic]

Barring any major issues with the Kunark Ascending expansion release, we should have these 3 zones ready to go for Stormhold.
More info soon.

Meanwhile, we can report that as of yesterday, the guild Dread Army was the first to defeat Trakanon on the Race-to-Trakanon server. At one time, Race-to-Trakanon was seen as a threat to the existing Stormhold server, however good old Trakky was defeated there months ago. Word from Kander is that transfers off of Race to Trakanon  are tentatively set to begin in December, with the server closure slated for January.

Gear Up, Level Up #5: November 4-11, 2016

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Game Updates & Maintenance, Live Events

From EverQuest2.com:

We’re approaching the end of Gear Up, Level Up, but the bonuses haven’t stopped yet!

From 12:00PM PT (Noon) on Friday, November 4, 2016 until 12:00PM PT (Noon) on Friday, November 11, 2016, ALL Players will be awarded with Double Currency(Including Public Quest Rewards) AND Double Loot!

Head into Norrath to take advantage of these limited-time bonuses!

Commentary

Just a reminder that the exact definition of “Double Loot” has not been explained. As far as we’ve been able to confirm, it’s a 25% chance to get a second batch of loot off of certain enemies in Thalumbra zones.

Update! Here’s an explanation from Kander:

There have been a lot of questions on how this actually works, so I am going to explain it here. Is it a little late in the promo to be explaining it? It really is. We are knee deep in expansion 13 beta and it just sort of got away from us.

So, Double loot means that any heroic zone end boss or any raid boss in Terrors of Thalumbra [currently] has a 25% chance to roll on their loot table and drop it twice in the same kill. They are able to drop anything on their table twice.

I hope that clears things up, we will most certainly be using this again in the future. Thanks to everyone for being understanding and a special thanks to everyone who has been involved in helping us test Kunark Ascending.

Heroes Festival — November 3rd – 14th

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Game Updates & Maintenance, Live Events

From EverQuest2.com:

It has been twelve years since we first caught sight of the Isle of Refuge and made our way into this magical realm of Norrath. In that time, we have built cities, fought dragons, and – most importantly – formed lasting bonds of friendship with our fellow adventurers.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Heroes’ Festival is returning to Norrath once again. And this year, there is a special reward for anyone who participates! Earn the Twelfth Anniversary Celebration Mount if you complete six Heroes’ Festival Quests during the event.

On the TLE server Stormhold, the Twelfth Anniversary Celebration Mount will behave like a leaper mount.

Kunark Ascending Preview: Ascension Classes

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Expansion News, Itemization

ascension_form1

From EverQuest2.com:

Kunark Ascending makes Ascension classes available as a form of progression for all max level characters. Ascension classes are the apotheosis of a facet of energy, and are the gateway to ascended power. Once you have completed the Kunark Ascending signature quest line you may speak with one of the four masters in the Obulus Frontier to begin down the path to Ascension.

Ascension Forms

Each Ascension class grants the character the ability to shift into an avatar of that Ascension, converting all damage done from any ability that does not deal damage based on your weapon’s damage type. This conversion will also convert most pet and swarm pet damage.

A popular trend on Twitter is #ThrowbackThursday, where everything old is new again, at least on Thursdays. The @EverQuestii account has adopted this trend over the last  2 weeks by posting concept art from the original Rise of Kunark expansion from 2008. Above is one of the first maps for the continent of Kunark. Below would be concept art for the then-new Sarnak race…

Preparing for the Kunark Ascending Expansion

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Expansion News, Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization

eagles_talon_feldon

One of the proudest achievements in my EverQuest II history was acquiring my Eagle’s Talon epic weapon while Kunark was still fresh, challenging content. It took many months to find groups to get all the various group updates, many of which required defeating the hardest enemies in the game. Other updates required faction grinding (urrrgh Reet!), collection quests, and other solo side quests. Sadly I could not find a screenshot of when I received the fabled Eagle’s Talon, but I do have the above screenshot of when I acquired the mythical version during my brief flirtation with raiding.

When the Epic Weapon 1.0 quests went live in February 2009, nothing about them had been revealed as there had been no public beta test. They were a complete mystery. Players had to band together and use their knowledge of Lore to seek out the quest starters and find the updates and requirements themselves. Some classes took over a week to find their quest starter. Many of the quests had NO quest feather to help and some had extensive prerequisites requiring hours of gameplay to even start the quest. Fast forward to today, and most quests in EQ2 are expected to be straightforward and obvious, with few if any prerequisites.

Not surprisingly, the announcement that EverQuest II’s upcoming thirteenth expansion Kunark Ascending would have some requirements and prerequisites from older content before players would be allowed to start the new stuff has been met with surprise and searing feedback. After much forum strife, one requirement was dropped: You no longer need to have done the Terrors of Thalumbra Signature quest before you can zone into Obulus Frontier, the expansion’s new overland zone. That’s not to say all requirements  have been dropped.
