  1. For anyone that is doing the beta – are the progression servers worth coming back for? Keeping in mind I’ve played EQ2 since November, 2004 and I’m all about reliving that era.

    1. That really depends on how important reliving that era means to you. If you’re looking for something at least similar to what it was at launch, these servers are not for you (or me). If you don’t mind the current live servers with some minor changes, then you’ll probably enjoy them. Anyone that was hoping they wouldn’t half-ass this project will be disappointed.

          1. I agree you could roll a new toon and lock yourself and cruise along at your pace that you want, I already know folks who do that. To me this was a waste of recourses, as it is not a true go back to where it started.

      1. Sort of harsh to call it half ass given the size of the dev team. Its not this dev teams choice to run as thin as they do (its management) and you can bet they are not just punching the clock and putting in their 35-40 a week.

If you have been reading the forum posts you’ll notice there is quite a bit of shared core code tied into the Live & TLE servers (read some of Gninja’s feedback on requests). If they make drastic changes then they’ll have to essentially support 4 builds of the game (Live PvE/P & TLE PvE/P) which would increase their test time for every core code change made bogging them down when they are trying to make “compansions” , address bugs, and make some new offering to us.

If ya don’t like it then NP do what you do (play live, don’t play) however I think there is a niche here and I’m looking forward to the experience (as former player). I’ve been playing the PvE TLE beta since it opened, won’t find me complaining w/o constructive concerns and I’m constantly sending /feedback to help with the little things the dev team won’t have time to do (which I have seen changes from eg: gear updates).

        1. they have spent a month on this. Some of the reasons they list for not doing something involve having no time. What would you call that? Sorry, they don’t get any sympathy points for having a small team when they’ll be charging to play on these servers.

          1. Not really sympathy, its logistics.

They know how long it takes to revise/test code, they look at the current projects (live/tle) and availability of time cylces of the team, and make a judgement call for how to best spend that time. Sure they could spend more time on something but at what cost and what benefit? I could speculate… but it would just be an opinion.

You comment about them charging to play, that is all management. Do we know the current cost associated with running their business or what the shareholders expectations are? Do we know if EQ2 is making a profit or if they are currently running in a deficit? We really don’t, I consider the subscription model of a way gating the experience (weed out the plat for subs model many follow on Live).

Ever worked a 100 hour work week for weeks on end… I have so I can empathize.

          2. This ^^^. To me they should have done a badly needed server merger first. Then or at the same time finished the cross server dungeon finder they were working on. Lastly, they should have worked on TL servers and taken their time. They are only doing any of this now because people have been leaving the game in droves. We were told in the past that they wouldn’t be doing any kind of TL or progression server, just as we were told merging servers was technically impossible. I guess when they start losing money what they can and can’t do changes.

          3. They’ve already announced plans for server merges. I think it is smart of them to wait until after the TLE servers are live to do such merges as those servers are likely to suck people off of existing servers. By waiting they can (hopefully) make a more informed decision on which servers to merge.

      2. Oh, Iadien, I never get tired of your daily injection of TLE community poison, here, or on the official forums.

Yes, we get it. The IoF isn’t going to be in. But, that’s been made crystal clear for quite some time. I guess if your focus is on levels 1-6, this would indeed be a deal breaker. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

For the rest of us..I’m looking forward to a fresh start. So much positivity on the beta from people that are grateful for a new server, and new beginnings.

        1. Not everyone that disagrees with you is “poison”. I’m glad to see you’re still making your assumptions. Refuge is extremely low on my list of things that I care about. My main concerns are mostly with raiding, but also presenting much more of a risk while leveling again. Neither of which they seem to care about all that much.

          1. There’s nothing wrong with disagreeing, nor of giving your feedback. That’s not what I was referring to, and I’m quite sure you understand that line of difference. I’m speaking of the Committee of Discontent, a small but persistent and loud group, who, with multiple assertions that they have no intentions of playing the TLE, try to sour the community vibe with constant negativity.

You and the others aren’t going to play on the TLE? Great. But, please stop whining and moaning about the TLE not matching your particular vision. See? That is the line I was referring to that the Committee has crossed over. Your opinions and feedback have been submitted and acknowledged, you’re not getting your way, and to compensate it’s like a bunch of 4 year olds kicking up a tantrum. That constant vitriol is the poison that you are contributing. Again, please stop and move it along.

          2. More assumptions. I will in fact be playing on the TLE servers, just because I don’t fully agree with what they’re doing doesn’t mean I won’t be playing on them. I didn’t realize that being critical meant that I couldn’t play on the servers. Again, stop assuming you know everything.

You have attacked me for having different opinions on more than one occasion. Telling me that I’m poison and toxic to the community. And you tell me to move along? 🙄

    2. They are not progression servers. They are current game mechanics with expansions/content/AAs/levels locked so one may experience older content again (or for the first time if you were late to the game.)

They do not have sub-classes, no sub-combines for crafting, no isle of refuge, one cannot start in the Freeport/Qeynos directly. There are too many developer resources needed for such drastic changes.

If you want to play the old content at it’s level, you may be interested!

  2. My hope for the servers is that they spark enough interest that there will be a good sized population on the server so you can log in and actually do something with other players.

As it is now, depending on your class, it can be incredibly challenging to find a group at any given hour of the day.

  3. If they would listen to all of us they would know that all what we want is a vanilla like server how the game was released and came out.yes we want the heroics back in Antonia yes we want to get our corpse and have our golden light path back

    1. If they would listen to everyone who has an opinion, they’d have to launch 100 different servers with all different rulesets to cater to everyone’s conflicting wishes.

    2. I don’t think people realize just how much effort would be needed to make that server. And don’t speak for everyone. EQ2 at launch had a lot of flaws. You honestly think there will be enough people to support the grind in the overlands for heroic? There was usually only a very few amount of favorable camp spots in the original overlands for heroics partly because either a dungeon was too occupied by others or because not everyone had access to a dungeon. Everything else was mostly ignored (3/4th’s of EL/NK/Feerrott ect).

  4. There might be some appeal to be a server 1st with things but other than that I don’t have any desire to relive it….I’m content with current content and game perks/advantages.

  5. I think its a great idea , might even go play over there . there is an awfull lot of everquest 2 that most players never see because there is a rush to get to end game raiding . i think this will be more than a niche . however im surprised to see the dev team (or whats left of it) wasting its time on a side project instead of giving us new , well thought out content that we allready paid for .

i would like to once again suggest a public quest like storm gorge and ring war . that was one of the main things that kept people logging in and playing because they allways knew some one would be there to play with them .
