At long last, Player Studio is opening up to other countries! First mentioned in SOE President John Smedley‘s Ask Me Anything this January, SOE has now officially announced in a press release that EverQuest, EverQuest II, Planetside 2, and presumably EverQuest Next and just plain Landmark players in Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will soon be able to create and submit items and earn money back for their artistic contributions to these games!
Sony Online Entertainment’s Player Studio Program to Expand Internationally for the First Time
SAN DIEGO – April 2, 2014 – Today, Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) announced that Player Studio creators in select regions outside of the United States will be able to submit in-game items across all Player Studio-supported games on or before May 1, 2014, for the first time ever.
Player Studio offers enterprising gamers and creators the opportunity to create items that can be sold in the in-game marketplaces of their favorite SOE games and share in revenue generated by those sales. Previously, participation in Player Studio required that creators be based in the United States and skilled at creating items in 3D modeling software.
SOE players and creators are already making thousands of dollars in royalties from items they create in the program.
Player Studio Quick Facts:
- Nearly 5,000 submissions have been submitted to SOE’s Player Studio program as of March 2014.
- Players can currently create items across 17 different item categories in EverQuest, EverQuest II and PlanetSide 2. SOE is adding 18 more categories across all participating Player Studio games in the coming months.
- In PlanetSide 2 alone, Player Studio items represented more than 10 percent of total in-game item sales in January and February, and 35 percent of all cosmetic item sales.
Currently, participation in the Player Studio program is only available to residents of the United States. SOE will introduce new updates to the program for all supported titles that will simplify and expedite the Player Studio registration process and also allow international players to participate. The program is planned to roll out soon to residents of Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, and is expected to be available in additional countries later this year. An SOE Station account is required to create items for Player Studio.

Inside the Players Studio
If you are interested in Player Studio, then you would be remiss by not watching PlanetSide 2: Inside the Players Studio episode 1 on Youtube. Yes, it’s PS2-specific, and it’s hosted by Tramell Isaac, Senior Art Director of Planetside 2, but it includes several guests including Rick Reynolds who is now over all of Player Studio. At the 25 minute mark, he talks specifically about the requirements that have gone into adding PlayerStudio to other countries.
