If you are excited about EQNext Landmark, or just absolutely have to have every EQ2 in-game house item, then you’ll want to pick up the current issue of PC Gamer (January 2014, 248US).
By redeeming the PC Gamer-included EQNL Beta key, you’ll be granted [eq2u]EverQuest Next Portrait Bundle[/eq2u], specifically these paintings:
- [eq2u]Portrait of Firiona Vie[/eq2u]
- [eq2u]Portrait of Keeshar[/eq2u]
- [eq2u]Portrait of Jalena[/eq2u]
- [eq2u]Portrait of an Adventurer[/eq2u]
We have this info thanks to a player who discovered this item and graciously answered our questions.
A screenshot of the four paintings after the jump…
I really hope that they do small bonus advertising within EQNext for EQ2 within their game also. It would really help benefit the populations of both games =D
Hate to be a curser or a spiteful ill-wisher, but it’s good to see how terribly brand direction & production is received when it’s utterly perverted out of a naively incompetent want to simplify & copy-cat.
Sad that Norrath is reduced to such a squandering of potential.

Great find Feldon! Very excited!
Does anyone know if the keys are also included in the digital issue?
When I read up on the digital issue it stated that
****Please note: This digital version of the magazine does not include the covermount items you would find on printed newsstand copies. Any links that you see within issues referencing additional content for the magazine, please type these into your web browser to access.****
Option for ordering it online via the UK through here if you miss it while it’s on the news stands: http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/gaming/pc-gamer-magazine-back-issues/
The UK edition does not include beta keys.
Does anyone know which stores can I get this at? I am not having any luck with Gamestop, Barnes & Noble etc. If desperate I will order from the UK webstie Cyliena posted but I’d rather get a copy or two locally.
Well the Holiday 2013 issue I finally found after checking four stores (FU Gamestop for being useless) features Elder Scrolls Online, not Landmark. This may be a UK only issue.
That is a U.S. issue that is in the picture, I am assuming it is a subscriber copy since its missing the upc on cover. I would say we should start seeing on newsstands next week sometime.
Ah okay, good to know.
The UK PC Gamer runs different promotions IIRC, It happened when Planetside 2 was in pre-beta and PC Gamer had beta keys but only in the US version of the magazine.
I am sorry but I am not a fan of lion king meets tony the tiger. I find the art style a complete turnoff. I guess I might be in the minority on saying that but I have zero interest in the new game if the character models are going to look that bad. I keep seeing on facebook buy your founders pack, see it in game now as well. One has to wonder if about the sales of the founders pack/alfa and beta keys.
I’m not particularly fond of the character look either, but we have to realize – if we are completely turned off by the art style, we probably aren’t its intended audience. O.o
I’m curious to know who the intended audience is that will choose EQN over whatever they’re doing now…
Honestly, after the SOE Live reveal, I was both hyped and disappointed. Why the dichotomy? I bought into the hype. Who didn’t? Then..then..we saw the Disney Pixar Show. Indended audience? Not the old EQ crowd. Expected audience? Somewhere between FreeRealms, WoW, and GW2.
My guess would be people that my 42-year old self does not relate to well.
However, there are things about the game that I do like (provided they are in the game that is released). I like the idea of a destructible world – or at least one that changes over time. The concept of adaptive AI intrigues me. The absence of beginning good and evil factions is interesting.
Given that they are saying it is going to be free to play, it isn’t going to negatively affect me to at least give the game the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else, you can dedicate yourself to the cause of evil and go around slaughtering every kerran you run across. (If they allow PvP.) 😆
Art style, ‘heroic movement’, combat animations, lots of things for me to hate really.
Then there is the uncertainty of the technology build: voxel generation then conversion to wire frames on the fly (all done by Rothgar who has since moved on to another company), storybricks. With this much to go wrong why would I fork out cash to witness it?
Just ran out to my local stores here in the states and couldn’t find this issue. I went to Walmart and then BooksAMillion. BAM had a much bigger selection of mags, and the latest PC Gamer one they had was the “Holiday 2013” edition which was Elder Scrolls Online like Cyliena found.
It’s the January 2014 Issue. I am assuming the Holiday Issue is December. Usually the subscribers get the issues delivered before they hit the stores.
I also think this art direction is gawdawful and a serious buzzkill.
Wow, either those are some really ugly paintings or the target age is like, 3 or so. Weird.
They are screenshots from the game
In fact 2 of them were screen shots from the original reveal. So you know that your Kera will look like a cross between simba and tony. Ugggg. I was really looking forward to it until I saw they went with graphics that only my 5 year old would like.
I love EQ1 and 2 but the direction the franchise is going is a definate bummer for me.
*two thumbs down*
😥
Purchased mine from a bodega. Jan 04 issue, so local newstands/bookstores should have it by now…
I emailed someone from PC Gamer magazine (link on the website) and I got a reply back that says:
Thanks Senya! I’ll have to go prowling early next week, then.
I’ve played EQ since the beta program for EQ1 in 1998. I will not be playing whatever these pictures came from, even if it’s free. That style is nauseating.
Ewwww and no
i have played eq1 and 2 since launch also, and i can’t wait for landmark/next. i didn’t even make it through the 2 week trial for WoW, the art style was a big factor in that as well, but their entire game is cartooney not just the char models. also that is not the only head for the kerran.
look at the froglok, iksar, and ratonga in eq2, and compare how well they have aged to the humanoids. realistic does not age well, period.
there are so many aspects of the game that seem amazing to me, i just cant see abandoning it based solely on 3 race models.
Cant see the next eq game being for me its more akin to free realms judging by the p[pictures but never say never i suppose, another big bar to playing of course is the pro7 requirement for me in the UK it just wont happen.
AC2 is back in beta yas know right? 🙂
OK so i went and used google translate and this is what it said.
“It is incidentally, but’re giving away beta key of Landmark PC Gamer just came out on whether yesterday’s (January 2014 magazine version). It seems that giving away in the UK version and US version. Paintings that get EQN (valid for one week key β) in EQ2 also attached. Of Landmark α starts in three Tsukitarazu after, but such planning might come more in the future.”
I just want the dang paintings, lol. I am a collector. Has anyone seen it in stores yet?
Yes, I picked it up tonight from Barnes and Noble.
Are the paintings one per character or are they just 1?
It says 1 per character, however when I try to claim them on another toon it says “can not consume.”
It is a full set of 4 paintings for each char you have.
I put a /petition in a few days ago about not being able to claim it on more than one toon and they fixed it. I assumed this fix would be for everyone. If not I suggest filling out a petition. But yes, it is one per character….
