From Rothgar on the EQ2 Forums:
Just a heads up on the change coming with GU60.
You will now be able to change your spoken language on Nagafen (and Vox). This will enable you to communicate to the other team via /shout and /say commands. By default, your language will continue to be Lucanic (evil) or Antonican (good). If you don’t change your language, the other team will not understand you.
We often weigh our decisions with how intuitive something will be to new players and felt that making OOC and SAY cross-team, but not SHOUT, didn’t make a lot of sense. The SAY and SHOUT commands both represent your character vocalizing something in the world. The OOC command implies out-of-game chat. So from that standpoint, it makes more sense for shout and say to be opened up.
If you are used to communicating your plans to your team via shout, you can still do this if you leave your faction-specific language enabled. Otherwise you will have to use the OOC channel.
I understand this is not exactly how some of you would like to see it implemented but hopefully after a few days of use, this will seem logical and remain intuitive to new players coming to Nagafen (a bigger concern for us now that we are opening up PvE PvP transfers).
Update: Since this article was posted, we’ve received word that Vox and Harla Dar will have the same changes:
Good question, and yes, all of the GU60 PvP changes will take affect on all PvP servers; Nagafen, Vox and Harla Dar.
