This breaking news comes from an SOE GM (we are withholding the name):
As part of having an actual subscription through us is the fact that you get to use the bonus items unlike if you use a prepaid card. They get the special perks because they use us direct rather than going through a third type payment option. So yes, there is a benefit to have an account through us rather than a pre paid monthly gaming card. It may not seem fair that a player may have been playing for years with prepaid cards and feels they deserve the items, but the fact is that players who come to us direct made a commitment and thus reap better rewards.
Another thing with having a subscription is that we do give discounts when you purchase a 3 month or even a 1 year when you use a credit card. I hope that this information is helpful. If you have any further questions please let us know and we will be happy to help.
From the EQ2 Forums.
Forgive my language, but that’s complete bullshit.
Does having a Station access account count? I had a 12 month eq2 subscription but wanted more slots (2 weeks before the slot addition announcement 🙁 ) so converted to station access and got credited 6 months – am subscribed till about febuary on Station access and you can’t downgrade until it expires. (at the time I thought it was a smart idea with DCU coming soon but that backfired with its delay)
Glad I’m not one of the Euro EQ2 players that can only play via subscription cards because SOE won’t take my credit card. I feel so bad for them, SOE stiffs them so much.
Still surprised that people still pay Sony money even though Sony works so hard to let everyone know they don’t want you as a customer.
wow i have been using game cards for years now. mostly because soe overcharged my card several times .
that’s total bs its a way to force a player to buy 3 months at a time. a dirty underhanded trick.
well regardless i already kinda know the rewards are super lame.
if the finial reward is a half elf wearing vampire ears and fangs.. it looks like they spent 4 min creating. and if that’s any preview of how vellious will be. no reason to come back

I wonder if they changed their mind when they saw the response or if this was the plan all along. Just like the question of how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop, the world may never know. 🙂
