Many folks (including myself) have been trying to figure out the purpose of the Gruegnach illusion available from the NPC when you first zone into The Hole, and what, if any benefit it creates.
There’s a thread on the EQ2 Forums which works out exactly how it works. It’s rather tricky to say the least, but at least we now know what EQ2 Devs were aiming for.
UPDATE: timetravelling indicates in the same thread I linked above that he is aware of the complexity of how this illusion works and will be working to clean things up.
Leveling Slowdowns
Also, in an effort to slow down leveling in The Hole, the quests to turn in horseshoes, paws, tails, etc. have been modified to only be repeatable once daily. I’m actually kind of sad to see this but considering I was able to gain half a level just standing in 1 spot repeatedly hailing the NPC, I can see why the change was made. There are clearly some issues with the leveling speed in EQ2 from 80-90 right now.
I know I will get some hate mail saying “What does it harm letting us level as fast as we want?” but I think it negatively affects the health of the game if the de facto level that all players are expected to be is level 90.
It is looking like the relatively small size of this expansion is biting SOE in the rear. ROK launched with four current tier zones, while TSF expects us to gain the same number of levels in 2 overland zones or 1 contested dungeon.
There’s a thread on the forums right now claiming that completion of all the solo quests in the expansion is only enough to get players to level 87. That isn’t necessarily a crisis for new characters in the future, since there is more content in the 70’s than is needed to reach 80, but it looks like a bit of an issue for characters who did all the quests while capped at 80.
Sorry to break this to ya but the “defacto level” is 90 no matter what the leveling pace is.
You complain about the leveling pace being to fast and then you utilize a quest that lets you “level to quickly”. What it sounds like you’re saying is you can’t slow yourself down so you want SoE to do it for you.
Simple solution, turn up AA exp to 100% or turn off EXP.
As it is now people are complaining of being out of quests and not being level 90. While that won’t be my problem it does seem to be a issue and taking suggestions from folks like yourself they only make the problem worse.
Big fat lol at the leveling concerns. Level 90 is so easy to reach, I can not get in into my mind how some can’t.
I’d save myself a lot of trouble if I just reported on the leveling nerfs/tweaks/changes and left my comments to the wayside. 😉 No matter what I say, I get bitched out.
Say what ya think, at the end of the day it is still your name/handle in the web address
As for lvling speed, I bought a box to do a fresh install, (which had not done since KoS) after waiting for UPS to drop it off install and patch, I hit charactor select at the same time the wife (who had patched only while I was at work) told me that a former guild mate of ours had hit 90, Day 1 about 4 hours in, yea that is a bit extream I have to say.
I have to agree, and after kunark I hate to say it but it might be a bit too easy this time. I hope it will end up more like goldilocks and next time will be just right and not a pendulum that swings back the other way and it takes weeks per lvl
due to a busy work schedule I have not been able to get ingame as much as I would like to, but seeing that my two toons are still both under 83 (combat and trade) no I don’t think it is a huge problem that something that is broken and needs fixed, a look over the other ways to gain lvl’s outside quests/zone grinding maybe but please let it be a scalpe not the broadsword
(Roo can’t spell, and right now to lazy to copy it into word and check, Sorry)
Well the next time we’ll have a level cap raise is Feb 2012. So they have time to fix it. 🙂
