If you watched the SOE Live Keynote/Welcome Reception, or read our notes, you know that today October 29th is the day that Krono are being added to EQ2. This Plex-like currency allows players to trade platinum for a 30-day All Access Subscription (a $17.99 value).
At the Business of EverQuest Franchise panel (read our notes), Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson indicated that this new currency would be a safer option for players to bypass the whole nail-biting “handoff” associated with the current SC-for-Plat trading scheme. It would also help cut out gold farmers and fraud.
The addition of some kind of way to buy Subscriptions other than StationCash was almost inevitable. Georgeson confirmed that SOE were “losing their shirts” selling subscriptions for StationCash due to all the discounts and rebates which had been offered.
Buying and Selling Plat?
But what about the fact that this is now an “official” way to buy plat in-game?
No doubt some players still feel strongly on this subject of RMT. Some are against it because it means some players are able to “buy” their success and progress in the game and the addition of Krono won’t assuage their concerns. However for those whose trepidation about SC-for-Plat trading is rooted in the shady aspects of hoping someone doesn’t take your plat and logoff without having completed their end of the bargain, the Krono should go a long way to clean up that dark corner of the game economy.
It will be interesting to see how the game economy reacts to this new outlet for the abundance of in-game platinum.
Read the Krono are coming to EverQuest II FAQ or at EverQuest2.com
A useful quote from Piestro:
Why is it Lore? You’re supposed to be able to buy 25 of them per day according to this (at the bottom):

Until i see prices coming down to “just above SC cards”, its just a nice idea. 1100-1300 Plat is WAY too much for Krono. Sure it adds 30 days to all access, but most people don’t have that and it’s of no value to us who only play EQ2.
Hopefully, we’ll see more reasonable pricing in a few days.
And another thing: Those of us who need Krono, will not be able to buy it. As a Silver member i can at most hold 18.4 plat, even if i have a couple of 1000’s of Plat in repair materials.
= The max Plat restriction imposed on Silver and Bronze, and the probable pricing for Krono (500+ plat) will make the whole idea selfdefeating.
If this doesn’t put the gold farmers out of business nothing will lol.

This part of the system makes no sense.
Green, i solved it through a friend i trusted to take out plat from the guild bank and buy it for me.
..then immediately, i bought 2 more :o)
@Eschia the gold farmer have changed a lot, the only way to do really insane amount of plat is sell loot right. And this will not prevent it at all. They ll still get there 100k plat by week (prob much more sometime)
I dont like this, if SoE want people buy month subscription with plat they should just put it on broker for a fixed amound of plat, instead always push more and more real monay in game. If we dont pay attention in fews years they ll just remove plat/gold/copper and only use real monay for everything virtual.
I understand well that is for prevent people that got robed, but … they desserved it first.
Lot of trouble for something that should have never happen. Ban people that trade plat for dollars was the only way to deal with scammer that keep ruining the game for profit.
less and less game, still and always. With more trouble.
Smart move on SoE’s part to shut down the farmers =P
Not that I know how to really address it but I think you should be able to buy them directly from SOE for plat.
The reason, there is too much plat in the game, something needs to remove it not just move it in large piles from one player to another. Inflation in the game has never really been addressed honestly.
@Miragian: If they did it that way, SOE wouldn’t get any money for the sub time. It has to be player-to-player in order to ensure that the company is still getting some income.
So the only way to buy (for money) is from SOE website, there is no way to convert time-card or something like that? Then it’s a huge waste of time.
I admit, I’ll but them and sell them for plat on occasion (well, I’ll see how it is after I sell the free one I get from Fan Faire (forever!)).
I despise doing zones or dungeons just to plat farm, and I hate crafting. We don’t do a monthly plat split in my guild and the plat I get from the raid chest splits barely keeps me able to pay for repairs, buy poisons, ammo, cure potions, mana and health potions, food and drink, permanent and temporary adornments and stat potions, and a myriad of other things I have to pay for in-game.
Even if I only sell the free one I got from Fan Faire, at 1,000 plat, that’s 10 times more than I have now.
And yeah, “But it’s so easy to get plat in this game.” That may very well be, but I find it so mind-numbingly boring I’d rather pay the $18 bucks and let you farm the plat. Then we’re both happy. You get a free month of Eq2, (for the little time you spent easily earning plat) and I can now get the good food and drink for raids instead of always getting yelled at for buying the cheap stuff . . .
Now if they would only restore my power after Sandy I could DO all this (and the damn auto-correct on my phone doesn’t make our easy to post here without errors, either).
I haven’t played in two years in part because as a part time player I couldn’t keep up. By selling these things I can now buy better spells and it will make the game playable for me again. I might start playing instead of logging on and off once every three months to see if I’m still in my awesome guild. Kudos to SOE and in the end the market will settle everything out.
