During the Expansion panel at SOE Live, the issue of returning players was raised, specifically the cost-prohibitive need to buy two expansions just to get back into the game. This is something we’ve been asking about since the day the EverQuest II:Age of Discovery expansion was announced. We always wondered — could we just buy the features we want like Reforging, Mercs, and Beastlords a la carte? It looks like all the roadblocks have been cleared and this will now be happening!
Holly responded that, in the near future, Age of Discovery will be broken up into separate features to buy. Also, Destiny of Velious will soon be included in the Free-to-Play entitlements. Included in all this news was that the 280 AA bauble — currently only available for buying Chains of Eternity — will also be made available as a separate item.
From Holly “Windstalker” Longdale‘s twitter:
I did say Destiny of Velious will be rolled into F2P and AoD will be split into features to buy! 280AA bauble too! #eq2 #SOELive

CoE is still $40 after almost a whole year. This is a problem.
That’s all well and good until you realise that buying Reforging, Mercs, Beastlords and the increased AA limit via SC amounts to the same amount of cash as buying the AoD “expansion” in the first place.
Although I guess you can take advantage of the SC deals in this scenario.
I’d rather they just threw AoD in when you bought ToV to be honest.
Honestly, this was the actual question that was asked. The person was basically asking for ToV to include EVERYTHING again, but the answer was just that AoD would get broken up (and they didn’t say what they are doing with CoE, which brings me concerns about CoE not being included).
So I’ll be able to buy reforging for my boxed accounts without having to waste money on mercs, beastlords and dungeon decorator? Nice.
If they’re letting anyone insta-level to 85 whats the point of the bauble? Not much point in being 85 if you don’t have the AA’s.
Plus it’s quite easy to get AA’s in SS once you hit 90 anyway.
I couldn’t figure out the point either, but I do have some old characters that I might want to play again if I could instantly get them caught up in AAs /shrug
I got the impression that the instant 85’s won’t have 280 AAs, not 0 either, but definitely not 280.
I would love to be able to buy 280 AA baubles.
Wasn’t DoV made F2P when CoE came out? They don’t sell it on their main website anymore. It would make more sense to make CoE F2P and keep those players one xpac behind. That way, they still make money off of the max level characters paying for ToV and please the Free members who are willing to wait.
DoV was bundled with CoE, but not thrown in as F2P. Though that will be changing with this expansion.
Sounds good to me so people don’t feel they need to buy a whole box for one part:)
If I undstand this correctly it makes me feel kind of stupid for buying the expansions in the first place and for subbing. Should just wait and get it handed to me.
Your $40 was to play the expansion for 1 year.
From 2006-2011, when you bought EQ2’s new expansion, you got all past expansions. This whole “you have to buy more than 1 expansion to get everything” is something EQ2 hasn’t had since 2005.
Thank you 🙂 that clears it up
