I’m very excited by this 🙂 it will be fun to do some older zones, and SF zones required for mythical buff quest updates. It can be difficult to form groups for non current content.

If it builds level appropriate groups with limited mentoring then it will be awesome. People can finally enjoy content with a modicum of challenge.

One level 90 in a low tier dungeon is enough to trivialize everything and render everyone else useless. Two or three of them would be ridiculous. Hopefully there will be a way to put a limit on mentoring.

Not sure if anyone here has been to a sub level 80 dungeon with the new revamped gear, but even support classes can solo them with ease.

They say that some of the devs will be busy testing the low level dungeons, I’d sure like to join in with them as it would be hilarious to see their reactions to how wonky the lower level itemisation is.

Dungeon Finder is the best thing to ever happen to mmo’s. I’m going to come out of the closet, i’m playing wow and i’m having a really fun time.

Dungeon Finder practically sold me, no more spamming chat channels trying to get a group together and dunno why people always say wow is for kids, and that it’s all a-holes, cartoon graphics, you know stuff i used to say lol, but it’s not any of those things.

It’s a SOLID mmo no doubt. Maybe after playing EQ2 for 6 glorious years and things like LU13, you took in stride because you’re in good hands right, they know what they are doing right, and then dealing with all the incompetence after 2008, wow really shines.

You know what i do, i log on and i play, it never crashes, nothing drastically changes for the worst, nothing blows up after a patch or update, it just works flawlessly. It’s pleasure to know that you can simply log in and play and not get frustrated beyond belief every other day.

Which made me think after SOE blew up game update 61.

Do you really think WoW would have millions of subs if it pulled the chit SOE does? Seriously Rift, EQ2 they all chase and do whatever wow does, and now i know why, i finally gave wow a shot and Whad’Ya Know, millions of people are right.

Disclaimer: This is how i feel right now, wow bored me before but I’ve been going a few months on it now which is unprecedented for me and wow. Second, i’m older i don’t have nearly the time i used to play and don’t really want to have my life sucked away by a game anymore. So yes i’m playing wow very casually and prolly why it works for so many players and myself atm, you can take wow to either extreme, very casual or very hardcore but whatever way you go, there is no aggravation of the devs blowing it up every other day.

As an observation as well, i notice that wow gets pretty much the same criticism EQ2 gets, and browsing around other games it’s all the same just a different game.

Cross server brings more problems then it solves, at least if its a copy of the WoW implementation and the computer picks people promoting anonimity.

The port to instance, computer group picking (I’d rather not pug with a totally random group to Spire) and the need to tie a pork chop to the thing to entice people to play it (extra XP) is crummy.

But if it can be used as a decent grouping tool that allows people to create a group for a purpose (rathen then one that requires more work then shouting out in 1-9 channel) then its at least useful. WoW actually had this (and it was great) before the DF.

The LFG tool is rubbish because it takes more time to talk to and sift through people on there creating a group then it would just to shout into 1-9 chat.

Hardly anyone wants to just join a group, that sort of gameplay died out when MMO’s became soloable. People only want to join a group for a specific purpose, like to go to a particular dungeon or level range of dungeon.

The /lfg tool was actually a pretty good idea but when it was new there was no easy way to access it like there is now so everyone just kept looking for groups in channels. The only reason not to use it is that no one uses it 🙂

Dungeon finder could be pretty nice for easier DoV content and pre-DoV content, I’m optimistic. Knowing SoE it may get screwed up and not fixed until everyone has given up on it but I do like the idea.

Regarding the quality WoW … there are plenty of places those posts are on topic, here isn’t one of them. (bar the actual DF function)

I think the dungeon finder is an excellent idea. I work and don’t have time to spam chat, so it will be welcome. Alot of my friends play other mmo’s because they have a df, when they heard about this, they said are going to give EQ2 try

The Dungeon LFG Tool is the best thing I’ve ever seen in any MMO. It’s absolutely moronic that it took Smokehuffer this long to get it into this game. It really NEEDS to be cross-server to be truly effective considering that people are leaving this game faster than rats abandoning a sinking ship (let’s face it… EQ2 is on lifesupport). But, that being said, even a “not” cross-server version will help form up groups because, as Dethdlr stated (and I could NOT agree more with… “Even if it’s not cross server, the dungeon finder will FORM groups. 30 people typing in channels “90 suchAndSuch LFG” won’t.”

People spam channels constantly LFG but never try forming groups mostly because you can get 2-3 people but then you sit around forever trying to fill the group up with whatever else you need. Then 1 or 2 of those 2-3 get fed up and leave because they’re tired of waiting, etc. At least with this tool you can do quests / PL / whatever and when the queue comes up to join a dungeon in a full group then BAM! You’re in.

The dungeon finder has been one of the must sucessful tool in the game in WoW. One of the things that has made it sucessful is giving veteran players (raiders) a reason to help lower geared players compleate dungeons. Veteran players are rewarded with two rate limited tokens per a day for doing a random dungeon. This system makes helping undergeared and skilled players gear up and skill up rewarding for everyone including the veterans who are helping them. As it stands I believe no system like this is going into place with eq2. At the higheest levels the lack of veteran players who will want to assist in clearing dungeons will be sparse. This means that many groups will be composed of 6 people who are under geared and under skilled for the harder dungeons which will result in frustration and lack of using the system at max levels for harder dungeons (which is where the best instance loot to get gear to start raiding exists)

As it stands the dungeon finder will be just an easier way to level up and find people. It will not assist in its true value like it does in WoW helping non raiders gear up for potental to raid someday. What a waste.

/LFG tool doesn’t take away the requirement to talk to people, figure out who’s going to login with what toon, pick a dungeon, etc. And usually the person organizing the group is expected to know the zone.

I am sure EQ2 appreciates the postive commments left about the dungeon finder, I think alot of ppl are looking forward to giving it a try.I know I am, I think EQ2 is tring really hard to add all the content they can to make EQ2 a better game. There will be bugs and delays as all new stuff added has to be worked out, even on Wow,there were alot of glitches after Catalysm.

As for EQ2 being on life support (as mentioned in an earlier post) I don’t know what to make of that comment, Does this person really like EQ2 at all? Want the game to grow and survive? I think not, negative comments eq2 doesn’t need, so everybody grin and bear with the bugs, know you are getting new content and fetures and let’s support EQ2 as best we can by postive and hopeful.

    Dungeon LFG tool is scary.
Anyone wondered how matching will be done in the future?
it starts with poor matchmaking and people complaining on undergeared, underskilled players and SoE fixes it.
Rating, and at this point we are dead n with what killed made WoW horrible, GEARSCORE!
Only thing they can use atm would be even worse Critmit (the Gearscore of EQ2)

    I really hope im wrong.
EQ2 is a great game even though many dont think about the limited resources it has compared to a game like WoW with 19times more players and monthly subscriptions.

The Dungeon LFG tool will be interesting, its the same matchmaker used by Battlegounds. Anyone who plays BGs knows how bad the matchmaker is. At least the rest of the population will finally see what the BG people have been complaining about for so long.

Well they had the scoring system, but alot of people complained and said groups would soon say you dont have 130 points you cant join our group, which is a bit similar to the crit mit issue. The BG thing is annoying. I played it for a bit on my monk and I didnt seem to like it. I would be stuck in a group with my Monk, Plate fighter and a warlock at best. I had several times I went in with incomplete groups early on. I cant say how it is changed now since I have been reading about the level 90 toons in the 30’s BG’s and the fact that you have to PVE in one of the scenarios to win it. I hope they leave it on test for more then 2 weeks to test out. I wont be able to test much since I have to finish grinding out AA’s on my new coercer

Eq2 has had gear scored for a very long time, but has kept them hidden from players (except for the brief period mentioned above that generated so much illogical whining). It should be considered for dungeon matching just like class makeup. A suck part of PUGs now is when some moron in 80 shard armor calls for a Kael or Drunder group.

The real trouble i see is SJ’s observation that we are alt-oholics. I assume this only works for the took you’re on yet LFG in channel is almost always followed by a list of 3+ alt they are willing to play.

If it uses a gear and class check then it may be decent during high population but low activity times.

Last, I believe SJ previously mentioned that the DF is new and will replace the crap one BG uses. Investment was based on that double payoff. I COULD be mistaken.

I must be mad, but I often enjoy taking part in sub par groups. Because sometimes I don’t mind if a zone takes a little longer than it should. I don’t have to tear my way through it each and every time with similarly geared players. I enjoy the social side of EQ2, helping other players gear out or even just carrying someone through a zone. Dungeon finder is going to be really awesome for me anyway.

One problem I see with your description of the WoW dungeonfinder is that as you say yourself higher level players are doing it for token farming rather then fun.

I can understand putting a temporary bonus (like a quest reward, or achievement) to encourage people to check it out, but instead the rewards are so good they channel players into content they ordinarily would not do, that’s good for short term player numbers, but bad for the long term health of the game.

I don’t know how EQ2’s dungeon finder is going to work, but I have used WoWs and it works for a few reasons:

    — the player cueing up has to check a box saying what their role will be (healer, dps, etc.)
    — You can check which dungeons you want to do. There’s one where you have to jump a lot, I would never queue for that one.
    — the group does not form until all the core classes are available. You wait in a queue until it does.
    — once all the people click a button saying they are ready (and there’s a timer that comes up for you to click ready in a short amount of time) then everyone is zoned in to the dungeon.
    — you can kick out a poor player. Everyone has to vote on it, however. Then you are recued.
    — some dungeons I believe (not sure tho) won’t let you in if you don’t meet the gear requirements.

Here’s the problem: everyone does the same dungeon over and over again, ad nauseum. It gets pretty boring to do Scarlet Monestary 50 times. I imagine doing Wailing Caves, Stormhold, or RoV fifty times will get boring too. But in that game, if you don’t do dungeons, there’s no way to gear up. Soloing rewards aren’t good enough to advance. Which is why everyone does the dungeon queues.

So I hope it works here, but I have never really had a problem with going in the 1-9 channel and getting a group if I wanted one.

PS — if you play WoW, you must have an authenticator. I had a craptastic character and I got hacked anyway, they played my characters, sold gold with them, and I got banned (and reinstated, they were good about the whole thing). I know how it happened, but this is an eq2 forum so I won’t go into it. I know SOE got hacked, but it’s nothing like Blizzard.

The dungeon finder was my favorite thing about WoW, and it’s also a major reason why I left. People took full advantage of the added anonymity cross server groups brought by griefing and trolling and ninjalooting without fear of ruining their reputation. This wasn’t exclusive to the dungeon finder system, people there don’t care about maintaining a good reputation on their own servers to be honest, being cross server just amplified it. With all of it’s faults, it is the one thing I missed after returning to EQ2. I haven’t even attempted a Velious instance upon returning after three years not because I don’t want to group, but because of the tedium involved in the process leading up to it. I expect the dungeon finder will cause a much needed increase in people LFG, and I hope that because of the more mature playerbase EQ2 sports that it will dodge the pitfalls found in WoW.
