Critical Oversight in Public Quests Gear?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Grouping, Live Events, Raiding

Players have been surprised by a change in Thursday’s Game Update affecting the Critical Mitigation of Fighter armor received from Public Quests.

As we know, both Public Quests award armor upgrades for hands (gloves) and legs. Storm Gorge PQ’s also award armor for head and feet (boots), while Ring War PQs award armor for shoulders and wrists. There are also rare drops from these events, including Fabled chest pieces and Weapons.

During Beta, Othmir solo quest givers offered a full set of armor which was essentially Sentinel’s Fate Tier 1 raid armor minus adornment slots. After Beta concluded, this was changed to be more of a progression from Sentinel’s Fate heroic gear. You’ll recall that we were cautioned that Critical Mitigation would be necessary to participate in Velious, even when killing solo mobs.

In Public Quests, there is more than one level of gear quality awarded. A Victorious Armor Piece typically has main stats of +77 sta and +77 of the class’ main stat. A Triumphiant Armor Piece has higher main stats (typically +84 sta and +84 main stat) and is distinguished by having Yellow adornment slots.

However a little noticed line item in the March 3, 2011 Update Notes had a significant impact on Critical Mitigation for Public Quest fighter gear, when compared to its counterparts in the Othmir solo questlines:

Fixed an issue with PQ armor that was causing it to have crit mit values that were too high.

Some players lost as much as 42% Critical Mitigation with these changes in the Public Quest gear, many after having already transmuted the Othmir solo quest armor.

While most of the Othmir solo armor pieces have +5% critical mitigation per piece for most classes, the fighter gear from these Othmir solo quests has a surprising +17.4% Critical Mitigation on the Forearms (brawler, plate), Gloves (brawler, plate), and Boots (brawler, plate) slots. We thought this was “working as intended” to give fighters a leg up on Crit Mit in the new expansion.

So, will we see the Othmir solo quest rewards get dropped to 5% Critical Mitigation on all pieces? Or will we see Public Quest rewards restored to their original levels? Time will tell.

Bracers of the Rimeknight, drop from pool first name pretty easy to get :

    84 str 91 sta, 16 parry, 5 multi, 4 crit bonus, 24 crit mitigation

T3 raid epicx4 woe bracer give 4 crit bonus and 7 crit mitigation and… nothing else.

usually bracer have half the critical mitigation than shoulder, so when they told about nerf i was expecting a 12 crit mitigation on bracer, but 7 was a bit rude. specialy since they dont have other stats.

I don’t know if SOE still does this but i once had a item replacedthat i sold. Those journeyman boots that came with the original EQ2 preorder. Not the quested ones but the level 1 boots. When my launch day toon outgrew them i sold them. 2 years ago I petitioned to get them back just for the novelty. I got a answer and to my surprise a fully unattuned pair in my bags. I’m sure they can unsell othmir armor and hand it back. Not sure and untransmuting them though. I could see a potential exploit.

OH well i was an over nerf, I submitted 2 tickets that have been both been closed saying working as intended.

Kind of a shame that the item devs got his boat backwards on this one. Attempts to get him to respond have ended in threads being moved to oblivion.

I did on my sk transmute those othmir items as I though I did have better gear, but I am not asking for them back.

I just want the dev who messed up to even out the stats.

What i love with petition is the answere they always give “working as intended”, they dont know the game at all, it always work as intended.

I have petitionned a bug for ask a reimbursement few years ago, i got this answer. I never got my reimbursement, strangely several month later a GU patched this bug that was not existing. But i still got robed, and the petition was not working as intended by me.

They listen too much dev who think they know what they do and not enough player who live the change

From the update notes of tomorrows hotfix (10 march)

    – Reduced the crit mit values for some items to their intended levels

Guess that will be the solo quest rewards.

nerf nerf nerf! nerf this! nerf that! nerf your players until they quit!

    GOOOOOO SONY!

Beta didn’t end folks, you just now have to pay for it on a monthly basis.

They should of left Crit Mit with the Raiders were it belongs and we wouldn’t be in this mess now.

I also said testing the DoV content with SF T1 Raid gear was a bad idea… but yeah what has happened is pretty much what I expected.
