Better Way to Invite Alts to Guilds?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in DGC Wants Feedback, Grouping

If you’re an officer or leader of a small guild, odds are there have been times late at night, or really any time when you have been the only one logged in, yet wanted to invite your own alts to the guild. Previously, you’ve had to wait until another officer or leader of the guild signed on, or signed in another account, to invite your alts.

File this under M for Maybe, but that Guru of GUIs, Rothgar, has had a brainstorm on a possible solution. There is no announced date, and there may be unforeseen issues, but it’s worth a look.

Sounds like a good idea to allow guilds to let members invite their own alts.  Its something we can look into.  Rather than creating an item or some way to send an invite to an offline character, a simpler way would be to create a command that you can run from your alt to join a guild.  Then the game server could just check to see if that guild allows alts to add themselves and confirm that your account already has a character in that guild.

Asked whether this feature could be restricted by rank, Rothgar had this reply:

Since we’re still speaking hypothetically, yeah, it could be an option thats restricted by rank.

I would personally hope that only Leaders and Officers can invite themselves, although even this opens up the possibility of some issues if a Leader or Officer has been dismissed from the guild and someone forgets to remove one of their alts. It sure would be great if, by hovering over a character name, officers and leaders could see a list of that person’s other characters which are also in the guild.

I think what he meant by restricted by rank was that it could use the check-boxes for guild permissions so each guild could choose which ranks could or could not use this feature. That way, some guilds could let anyone use it, others could disable it completely, or anything in between.

We have each of our members choose a “main”. We then put in the officer notes in the guild window “Main-MainToonName” or “Alt-MainToonName” so we can keep it straight as to who’s who. With this feature, we would just need to stay on top of the guild event log and tag people’s alts when they invite themselves.

Sounds like a good idea though. I hope it makes it into the game.

would love a feature that allowed me to hover over someones name and see all their other toons in the guild…because it helps with the opposite of this feature..I could see all the toons I needed to kick if needed.
