The EverQuest II Extended (Free-to-Play) website and Beta service have officially launched. Of note on the new EQ2X website is a tremendous 2 minute trailer for the game which is getting a lot of positive reaction so far on the EQ2X Forums. The cinematic trailers coming out of EQ2’s PR department are always worth a viewing.
The folks over at DreamStation.cc have posted the EQ2 Extended Trailer in 720p High Definition:
EQ2 Extended (EQ2X) Beta
The EverQuest II Beta is now open (as per the e-mail I received) and you may clone your character from a live EQ2 server (including PvP) to the EQ2X server for a mere $35.
There will no doubt be many changes and tweaks to EQ2X as players start to play-for-free. Already, we’ve seen one surprise with an additional cost being added to form your own guild — $10 or 1000SC to buy a Guild Charter. This is even if you have a Gold ($15/month) subscription.
SmokeJumper informally answered a query about this in an in-game chat, stating that this is being done to prevent people from making personal guild banks to bypass storage restrictions on bronze/silver accounts. It also keeps the fly by night short duration guilds to a minimum.
Players have expressed concerns that if there wasn’t a cost then Gold members could “sell” guilds to Silver members as personal storage.
Some things to remember:
- This is a Beta, and things change all the time in Beta.
- EQ2X, by and large, is intended for new players who will probably be thrilled with how much content they get for free, compared to most of the very content-light free-to-play games there are out there.
EQ2Wire Coverage
EQ2Wire will be providing coverage of the EQ2 Extended service as it affects the entire EQ2 ecosystem. At this time, we do not plan to specifically monitor theday-to-day announcements and issues of features exclusive to the EQ2 Extended Service. We may, of course, re-evaluate this approach as subscriber numbers change and/or important events occur.
Why is it that live doesn’t get an awesome trailer? 🙁
We did and still have.. : ))
My only hope is that they use this fab trailer agressivlet to advertise.
p.s. i doubt i’m the only one that noticed this but i genuinley loled when i saw the closing statement.
“This is the World of Everquest 2”
:p
Least they didn’t say world of evercraft…
Amazing how some clever editing can make anything look awesome.
I find it strange they didnt use the SOGA models here, they are the default in EQ2ex.
The reason is that they used old clips in this video…some of them are new but some are old promo clips.
I think it’s funny that people will sign up expecting to get the nice spell effects and original character models, and when they login they will get new spell effects and SOGA models. Talk about bait and switch. 😉
They should hire this guy to do trailers (ignore the japanese music although it kinda fits):
