  1. Even though I’m personally worried about the future of this game and company this is almost too good to pass up. I’ve been subbing one month at a time sporadically (as in 2-3 months a year). While this will cost me more within a year I’ll also have full membership the entire year. I’ll most likely buy it but plan to sleep on it.

  2. Will take advantage of this for at least one account. The $71.99 for 12 months is a deal, considering the regular price for 6 months is $71.94.

I wonder if Daybreak Games fiscal year begins on September 1st? This surge of payments boosts the revenue line item for end of year. Or even the end of the third quarter will show this likely revenue increase.

For a private company that only matters, when a company has to show profitability to it’s overseers/investors. I.E. ‘don’t shut us down we’re making money’; win win for everyone.

Or when you’re showing (inflated) revenue figures to a prospective buyer.

    “1. Accelerating Revenues
One way to accelerate revenue is booking lump-sum payment as current sales when services will be provided over a number of years. For example, a software service provider receives upfront payment for a four-year service contract but records the full payment as sales of only the period that the payment is received.”

    Or even months …

  3. Daybreak has made this offer almost too sweet to pass up. And it certainly does put money in their hands today which does make me think what is the specific driving motivation for this financial move.

But in the back of my mind – there is always the pessimistic thought “Will still be running through the entire run of the extension to my subscription that I am adding.

Given the fact that they could close the door to any given title on any given day, there is a bit of risk as customers as we re-up. If I have read the fine print on the agreement, there is no refunds on pre-paid subscriptions including even if they shutdown your favorite and perhaps only played title.

Just something to think about – but – to be fair I’m still going to pull the trigger on this offer – it is too good to pass up even with the risk…

  4. Think this is a coincidence that you have to do this by the end of the month? Nope. It’s the end of the quarter, and DBG has numbers to report to their shareholders/bosses.

That being said, absolutely take advantage of it! The more money this game is making, the longer it will last and the more attention it will get.

    1. August 29, 2016 – End of Sale
      August 30, 2016 – Legion Launch

Pretty obvious when you put it down on paper what the due date is really is all about. It’s just EQ2 fighting back and good for them!

  5. The question you need to ask yourself is whether you want to throw away $71.99. Simple as that. It is entirely possible that they could shut it down on Sept 1 after raking in all the money.

Regardless of the ethics of the EQ2 staff, and I think they are all fine and upstanding people, the company is owned and run by some unknown entity who has been reported to have less-than-stellar ethics. If they pull the plug at any time, you are out that money. It is as simple as that.

If they do shut it down in Sept, you could always contact your credit card company and try to reverse the charges (claiming fraud). That might be fun…

    1. Given that there is an expansion due to come out in fall in which several man-years have already been invested, EQ2 is still making money and in the past they have announced game closures several months in advance, I think this is extremely unlikely. They’d be throwing away money. If they close, the game, it will either be in spring (of any year) or after active development has ceased for quite some time.

      1. The time to watch will be after the expansion. For the first time in SOE’s history, the game teams are looped in on sales numbers, what’s selling on the Marketplace and what’s not. The sales of the expansion will be a key data point.

        1. There is certainly one scheduled, but not announced yet. Devs have stated they are working on the next expansion, plus our host Feldon who has good contacts to some devs has teased the next expansion will be EPIC.

          1. This is why I’m here I’ve not heard anything about an expansion? So no one else has either. It’s pretty much a cash cow for them so there probably is one.
This whole super deal is the coming of Legion, of any mmo out there EQ2 is the one that probably suffers the most due to wow. wow was created from the EQ mold.
wow has plagued EQ2 since launch, and you can bet this legion will have an impact on the playerbase once again, but by having people locked into a year, after their McDonald’s craving is over with legion, they have a decent place to come back for a proper healthy meal.

          2. There is absolutely an expansion coming. A producer’s letter is coming soon. We’ll be having a live cast to announce it right before pre-sales start. The name has been finalized, key art is almost done. We’ve got 3 new box features that are awesome. Beta will start some time in October.

          3. I’ve not heard anything about an expansion? So no one else has either.

You have chosen to be blissfully unaware of something that has been mentioned several times. I’m not quite sure how that negates anyone else’s knowledge of it. So if you forget how to drive a car, does that mean that everyone else on earth will also forget? How far does your superpower reach?

          4. Yea i guess i could have read a little more thoroughly. 🙂 It wasn’t that i doubted there would be one, was more in we have not heard any info about it, yet. Feldon, remember us mere mortals don’t have the supreme beings feeding us info way in advance, we are oblivious until firm details are made public. And thanks Kander for the response appreciate it, Looking forward to it!

  6. Having already invested a lot of money in the game and wanting to see the game continue I almost cannot resist the value of grabbing this deal on at least one of my accounts. I think the risk of not taking this deal could potentially be greater. Loosing all I’ve invested both money and time.
I really do love this game. Having tried many other games we really are spoiled here with everything this game has to offer.
And the community…really the best of the gaming world.
I’d miss this if it were gone.

    1. I’m completely wrapped in the IoR server so no pay no play for me, i took the deal right after i subbed for 3 months, now I’m subbed till pretty much 2018. I kinda like it. I usually go month for month as if i stop playing i cancel then re-sub when i return but, it’s a heck of a deal.

  7. I took advantage of it. One of my accounts was due Sept. 1 so this was great timing. The other account was due in October but it added this to that time.
I’m thinking about making my silver account all access too. Haven’t decided yet but it might be worth it to me.

  8. I wonder, if you purchase this 12month block and immediately cancel, will you retain all-access for the full period and avoid the automatic resub? I know a lot of companies hinge some expectation that forgotten automatic renewals will generate some revenue too, and some people will not pursue refunding if they no longer play.
