AoE Double Casting Fix Incoming!

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Raiding

A fix has been found for the AoE Double Casting that many Velious raid mobs have been guilty of. This required in-depth analysis of the logs which have been generated especially to determine why these mobs were exhibiting this behavior. From Maevianiu on the EQ2 Forums:

We were finally able to reproduce this and a fix for it will be in the next hotfix. Thank you for the detailed descriptions when it happened it really helped dig into the logging to find the cause. It was related to people dying and rezzing. Accepting a rez while he is casting the AE is a great way to make it happen nearly every time… probably not a good idea to do that even after the fix, rezzing into a brutal AE hurts!

I still don’t understand why the devs found it so hard to reproduce. Guilds have been reproducing it every day for 6 months!!

I think it was more a matter of placing priority to get it fixed and using the line…”we are having a hard time repoducing the problem” as a cover to the fact that they were not allocating any resources to the find/fix.

Well, now they have to include dying into their testing, as well as rezzing during and after AOEs. =)

It’s a very quirky issue, as someone who has coded and tested for a living I’m not the least surprised it took this long to reproduce. None of their testing protocols nor logging were likely to include that particular combination of events – they essentially must have kept adding logging until they finally had enough to spot a trend.

The issue for me though was the fact that they claimed for months that they could not reproduce the issue. Guilds were reproducing it on a daily basis. If they were actually interested in the problem, they would have found a way to tag along so that they could SEE it happening. They did not. That’s why people are annoyed about it.

I code too and if my users were complaining about an issue that I could not track down, I would sit beside them to see it for myself. 🙂

Mmm, sure, but even if they watched a guild do it (and for all we know they did so), I’m not convinced they’d have seen what the trigger is that way either. Does someone getting rezzed in show in the chat windows for someone else in the raid?
