We’ll be back tomorrow with a post-game analysis of the Spires and Dragon Ring live events which are now complete on many servers. But in the meantime, here’s a response from EQ2 Associate Producer Domino on the EQ2 Forums:
Hi folks
The first servers have completed both events, congratulations! And as you’re aware, there were a number of unintended issues that occurred. We’re sorry that this event didn’t run as smoothly as we would have liked, and apologize for your understandable frustration. We didn’t want to postpone this anticipated event any further, especially as we had already planned another bonus event for next weekend (more details to come next week), but this did mean we weren’t able to fix some bugs before they affected you.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, we’re watching the events closely this weekend and will be meeting up on Monday to discuss the best way to address the issues that have come up. We won’t have full details to share until we’ve had that discussion; however, we are definitely aware that a number of people did not get to update some of the quests, and we want to reassure you that we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure that nobody who participated misses out on those updates.
We’ll also be discussing the other issues that posters in this thread (and elsewhere) have raised, including mounts, merchant items, and whether ongoing quests will continue in the areas. In the mean time I wanted to reassure you that we’re aware of your concerns, are paying close attention to the event this weekend, and will give you an update next week once we have decided the best way to address them.
In the mean time, thank you for participating in the event, and for all the helpful feedback which has helped us to identify the issues we need to talk about.
I am glad they made Domino Associate Producer — she’s hard working and communicates with the players.
She seems like a person who will get things done. She’s had a loyal following since she started as the new trade skill person and made some very good decisions regarding tradeskills and crafting.
I just hope they will finally learn their lessons and move these events from progress based to time based. Progress based events have a tendency to leave several people out if they work on the weekends or otherwise unable to get in before its complete. Set it up for even a weeks run Mon-Sun or something that way everyone has a opportunity to get involved.
They REALLY could have made these two events “timed” events. We are not doing ANY of the construction or the research . . . they are, apparently, Union jobs. All we are doing is a bit of protection and getting beer, tools, and crystals. Since it IS a union job . . . they work at their own pace. To anyone who’s seen the movie, “Money Pit” when Tom Hanks asked, “So how long will it take you to finish this?” answer “Two weeks.” . . . actual completion time . . . over a year.
Make it timed, make it last as long as you want, allow everyone to participate . . . done.
I remember the griffon towers event so long ago. It was neat to see it come up in stages. It would not be hard to do the same. Some parts could be sped up with player participation, others stages could be timed to allow more to participate. They really did a good job on some of the world events. Not sure why the do good on some and crash and burn on others.
