Update Notes: Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization, Raiding

Today’s Update includes numerous tweaks to the harder Velious dungeons, further reducing the difficulty of many zones, as well as the aforementioned reduction in the cost of Velium Shard armor (Ry’Gorr armor is now 25 shards per piece, 20 if crafted). A glitch with Leaper or Glider mounts and pets (especially Coercer pets) has also been resolved.

From the EQ2 Forums:

POPULATION / ZONE PROGRESSION

  • Debuffs cast by enemies that inflict health and power damage when casting spells should no longer interrupt the caster or cause certain spells to get stuck in reuse.

Eastern Wastes

  • You may now respawn at the bridge in Eastern Wastes if you die nearby.

Fortress of Drunder

  • Players should now be able to zone back out to Fortress of Drunder again using the exit door in the following instances:
  • Strategist’s Stronghold
  • Tallon’s Stronghold
  • Tallon’s Stronghold [Challenge]
  • Tower of V’uul

Temple of Rallos Zek [Challenge]

  • The Idol of Rallos Zek’s falling debris should no longer target dead players.  Their health has been slightly reduced.

Tower of Tactics

  • Vallonite Shadow Stalkers will now respawn much less often.

Strategist’s Stronghold

  • Prime Shini-Zonn Hypatia will wait longer to hate shuffle after casting Fortification of Blades and she will hate shuffle less.  Her saddened soul sliver’s health has been slightly reduced.

Spire of Rage and Tallon’s Stronghold [Heroic]

  • Spire of Rage and Tallon’s Stronghold have had their difficulty lowered slightly.  Some bosses, primarily in Tallon’s Stronghold, are more forgiving.

Tallon’s Stronghold

  • During the General Zevitus (and company) fight, priests should no longer be targets of combat madness unless they are the only targets available.  The retribution spell (cast on players taking hostile action when Backlash is on them) now does less damage.
  • General Zevitus has Unbridled Fury of the Divine on him so that he is now debuffed by priests rather than fighters.   Bolt of Madness should only affect 2 players each time it is cast.

Kael Drakkel

  • Soren the Vindicator: Soren’s temple destroyers have less health.  The Diaku invaders now lock to Soren’s hate list and their power drain has been slightly reduced.  Resonating Blows now has a better chance of mitigating power damage.

Sullon’s Spire

  • Hragdold the Frenzied’s Clawstorm will not tick as quickly in non-challenge mode.

QUESTS

Throne of Storms

  • If a player in the group that is not on the quest “End of Immortality” picks up “An Enormous Metal Key”, the quest will still be updated for other members that have the quest.

Lesser Faydark

  • Corruption in the Faydark: Th’las Wildwood is no longer stuck inside a mushroom.

MOUNTS

  • Fixed an issue where pets would disappear when leaping and gliding.
  • Fixed an issue where leaper/glider abilities were not being properly disabled while underwater with water breathing/walking abilities, such as Abominus, active.

ITEMS

  • The first two tiers of Velium Shard Armor should now require less Velium Shards.
  • The amount of ore obtained from smelting down a piece of Drunder loot has been doubled.
  • Warlord’s Sabatons of the Citadel should now have Focus: Rampage IV.
  • Myrmidon’s Sabatons of the Citadel should now have Focus: Call to Arms VII.

I’m pretty sure they have no idea how to fix the world event. I mean it is SOE we’re talking about. They only have the worst developers/game designers in the world.

If they were the worst devs/game designers, we would be playing with ascii stick figures.

    Chris,
I seldom post a direct reply to someone else’s comment unless they display an extrodinary ability to highlight their ignorance.

The EQ2 designers and developers are some of the BEST in the industry, and don’t let bugs or designs that are too complex for you to understand let you think otherwise. Additionally, they CARE about the state of the game.

That said, they are dealing with a nearly impossible situation that they are slowly chipping away at. They have short delivery timeframes and an enormous amount of legacy code (also produced under accelerated timeframes..which means design and documentation may be a little…atypical). Add to that the fact that there are a LARGE number of people collaboratively hacking on the same code base, and it’s not difficult to understand how increased complexity of the code yields more bugs and unexpected outcomes.

If you want to blame producers for stupid decisions on the direction the game takes, or their CEO for changes made across all SOE games…then great! But when you start picking on their developers and designers, you should take a moment to talk about things you know something about.

I WELCOME any designer/programmer out there who does this as a profession (and isn’t a liar) to tell me that dealing with rushed code from multiple sources on an 8+ year old code base is easy to extend without creating almost as many issues as you fix.

Hate the politics and decisions, not the people who implement it for their paycheck.

I dont know how this live event is handled but there is a very easy fix so that people do not complete it too fast.
You cannot do more than one step per day or week… A simple sentence from the npcs involved like “this process takes time please hold until next week” would fix this.

    melpheos,

I have a better idea. Complete the quest as many times as you want, but the event itself is limited to a maximum percentage per hour. Let’s say 0.5%. I have posted some suggestions to the developers.

@Feldon : yes end result would be that Sony would be able to choose exactly how long the task takes to complete. Too long : increase the percentage, too fast : decrease it.

Seriously, they should just do that. I want my items off the merchant, I don’t want SoE to tell me to bad, you can’t get that mount because it cost 200 tokens, and you aren’t allowed to do the event anymore times.

Don’t tell me I can’t get my items off the merchant because the event is going by to fast, please just cap the percent and let us players keep getting our tokens! BTW, players think it is the easiest way of obtaining velium shards, so maybe that was a mistake? I personally, just want the mounts and cosmetic/house furniture items on that, I won’t be buying a single velium shard…

To think that i might miss a world event if i don’t log in for a day is ridiculous. make the event last five days at the least, that way everyone can participate. wth
