Less Than One Week to Fan Faire

We’re less than one week away from Fan Faire and things are running a bit quiet. I’ve spared no expense to travel to Las Vegas from Europe to bring you breaking news and even get a few questions asked at this year’s event. With the loss of Star Wars Galaxies and The Agency, more pressure than ever rests upon the EverQuest franchise.

Karen Bryan over at Massively posted a summary of some of the questions leading into Fan Faire about EQ2 as well as the shrouded-in-secrecy EQNext.

We’ll have the news for you as it comes down the pike. 🙂

im little confused now, will be velious part 2 split in game updates or a expansion? they talk about splitting velious but they talk for an expansion too! i mean if its a completely new theme, they will need alot of time to release date. In the mean time should release velious part two. Its not to early then to announce a new expansion?

    confused…

    @Sole,

Well according to Smokejumper there will not be a Velious 2. Instead the rest of the content will be released for free through Game Updates all the way through untill February 2013. Indeed it is kind of weird to announce a new expansion already when we are by far not done with the previous one. Unless they take us to exploded Luclin, they MUST, I repeat; MUST announce it!

But the new expansion will be a brand new theme, and if we may believe SOE it will be released between December – April (to keep in mind with the ‘yearly expansion’ schedule.)

GU61 is late August and will have the level 20-80 itemization revamp, more raid zones and possibly more dungeons.

This remains the very best site to get info in a maningful chronicoligal manner. I will be glued to this for anything EQ2 related dugring Fan Faire. Thx Feldon for going to the event and providing cover, which looks like a lot of work and running about on your part to achieve.

Perhaps a funny compliment but I like how you are keen to get the information almost instantly to readers, even if its not complete in full and then edit to bolster etc afterwards. Most of all, whether one may agree or disagree with your personal comments after the “facts” have been announced it is clear you are also a dedicated player of the game. Keep doing the same pls.

Sole, they never said lvl 100 was coming. They said it is an unknown. Personally I hope they don’t do it. It is a PIA to upgrade to all masters again.

this might be true kruzzen, but since release of eq2 every 2th expansion gets a lvl update.
also i assume that is like 2 expansion ago, again a lvl update.

I’m kind of hoping that they don’t do a level 100 either, rather then that find some way to relevel the game so that the max is 50 (original content) and the expansions just go 50-60 each time, or something like that.

Its not a problem going a little way from 60, but the more levels put into the game the more trivialised the lower levels become, especially with the broken mentoring.

I pray for Luclin. My kerra templar wants to see his forefathers 🙂

Seriously though, this is always my first port of call for EQ2 news. Feldon and your crew, you are doing an awesome job. And like Karofin said, we don’t care if your info is updated later, we commend you all for putting out what you know asap, and adding to it later. If only the official announcements worked the same way. Talking to your playerbase should be the first rule of running an mmo imo. I’m just glad EQ2Wire is on the ball.

@Kalako Luclin is in pieces all over the ground in Norrath these days. It would be fairly tough to base an expansion there I feel :).

They are sill working on level 85-90 content. For them to raise the level to 100 now would be pretty stupid. If hey MUST raise level then maybe 5 levels will open up content for more players. I just don’t see it being a smart move with many many only just now progressing content well (not smacking Drunder yet though).

From what I have seen so far, it appears that they are working on a gear leveling ideas more than raising the level cap. I think they are realizing that just raising the level cap adds nothing to the game. It is the same spells that you have to get over.

Instead they have started adding new stuff via aa. And although I know that they have added a level increase every other expansion, that has not always been the case. Also if you look at the way they have been doing things recently, I would be less sure that they will add more levels and just work at a gear progression as a leveling format.

There has also been talk about not doing expansions in the traditional sense but rather working with content updates to keep things moving along vs trying to reinvent things each expansion. Hoping to see more of that type thing honestly as adding a level cap increase does nothing for the game other than invalidate more and more content.

WE don’t need to go to 100, we still got all kinds of stuff to do between 80-90.

I read the article it talked about itemization. They should be asking what they are going to do to fix it. Even in velious itemization is so broken. Shard gear not much better than pq gear, item drops are junk compared to pq gear. Itemization needs to be looked at hard.

Now lets talk about eq-next eq3. Ho do they expect to be playing this. We already made this mistake once having 2 games, do we really need to further divide the eq player base with 3 games.

I personally love level increases. It doesn’t mean one needs to rush to the cap, but I do love knowing that XP gains can be made for that much longer in my characters’ futures. Maybe I’m a journey-not-destination kinda girl, but it’s a warm fuzzy to see XP numbers on my screen and I miss that once the max is reached. I’d happily play an EQ2 with infinite levels. =)

I’m the type of person who enjoys going back to solo older ‘trivialized’ content I was not able to do previously, so I always look forward to level cap increases that make such things possible. I don’t need to be the first to see new content; I prefer taking my time and doing it later when the mad rush is over.

Whens the last time you been to a SF zone, maybe a epic repercussion here or there. They do not need to raise the level cap to make the old zones trivial, that is the natural progression of the game.

I think you mean the lackluster progression of the game.

There was NO REASON for Velious to render SF dungeons irrelevant, any more than there was for Drunder to render past dungeons irrelevant. With a little planning and forethought about itemization, players at level 90 could have a choice of 25 dungeons.

Catbriar, you get the same thing with more AA. No need to add levels when yo ucan do it with AA.
