The folks over at Massively.com have posted an interview with SmokeJumper. In it, he talks about F2P, comparisons to other MMOs, the possibility of a dungeon finder, and the class balance manifesto. Interesting read.

What a massive steaming pile of crap! If the populations of the live servers are stable, then why is Najena a ghost town and I just watched my entire guild fall apart and quit in a matter of 4 weeks. The only thing that has happpened is the fact that nobody is cancelling their accounts…they are just waiting for their subscription to end.
Asshat!
I can agree with that, the only time my guild mates log in now is for raids. If i bother to log in, there is 1 or 2 people afk in the guild hall. The next update seems like a good one, if they can get it here sometime in the next month.
Far as F2P goes, they are leaving the players to many options. The idea is lure em in for nothing, and nickle and dime em to death. Many players can play for months with out spending a penny, what good is that?
I’m not too interested in the F2P side, although I still think the recruitment line to the live servers is missing, I reckon Smokejumper knows that too, but any fix wouldn’t happen until after EQ2X has had its time in the limelight. As for populations, Runnyeye where I play has been stable the past couple of months.
But on the rest of the article I thought it was excellent, it was very refreshing to read about him valuing the social/community side of the MMO as I had feared the game was becoming all about gameplay at the expense of immersion or any social play (ie gameplay changes that essentially just boil down to optimising token farming).
I’m very keen to see what comes next, unlike GU57 this actually looks like its got a lot of simple (if not easy to program) but good changes to the game, along with Guk Spire which I’m intrigued over how that fits in the storyline.
My guild only logs on for raids and since I play so much earlier than they, I hardly see them. I’m not sure what Permafrost’s population is like right now, but considering all of the major guilds are recruiting for at least 2 classes, I’d say a lot of folks are off doing other things with no care for EQ2 (and a lot of my own guildmates are the same way).
Same here, just raiding and that’s it.
Probably quiting in December to clear my mind for the upcoming MMO’s.
I had RL stuff to do, was unhappy with the direction of the game, and only logged on for raids anyways, to find an afk ghost town in the guild hall and on the server in general. So I mostly quit playing too! This was before EQ2X but I can imagine it hasn’t helped the problem.
