Adventure Class Reset for Crafters

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

Players logging this morning after Game Update 57 went live discovered an NPC in North Qeynos that allowed them to change adventure class from Illusionist to Inquisitor. This NPC has been pulled out, but here’s the explanation of what we can expect here, from the EQ2 Lead Designer Rich Waters:

Actually, at one of the Fan Faire Q & A panels we agreed we’d look into letting players reset their adventure class on high level crafters. This will likely work the same way high level adventurers can reset their crafting profession now.

So, crafters can expect to be able to reset your adventure class to a low level (perhaps level 9) and pick a new adventure class in a future update.

This is not a nerf, ezmode, or any other trolly 1-word description.

Some players (including myself) have rolled a character entirely to tradeskill, and the adventure class I chose was only given a moment’s thought. Now later on, I might be out of character slots and would like to change one of my high-level tradeskiller, low-level adventurers to another adventure class because I’ve never actually adventured with that character before and realize I want a different class.

I would not take this as a sign that betrayal will be changing. If we can change race, name, guild name, gender, and appearance by SC, can betray classes through a quest line, and can reset our tradeskill class any time by hailing an NPC, it’s perfectly logical that an unwanted adventure class can be reset to the beginning of a new adventure class.

So was this a bug or will everything stay like it is?

It really has been a messy update when a test npc like this accidentaly goes live lol. But to be honest i think it’s a good improvement. Hopefully they won’t touch AA when changing since that can be earned from TS quests aswell.

It’s not a “bug”. It’s an NPC that was pushed live before it was ready.

I am assuming that your AA will be reset to 0 and adventure level reset to either 1 or 9 or somewhere in between, with ALL non-TS quests completely reset.

As far as I know, absolutely no Tradeskill quests are supposed to grant AA.

All TS quests (except the repeatable ones) give AA… which makes sense, since there are (5) AA for crafting…

Have they ever done anything of the kind before? Are there potential exploits from players being able to “repeat” quests and claim a second copy of rewards? My guess is that this feature will NOT reset quests because the alternative sounds time consuming and difficult to implement safely. That way, you’re covered if you actually want to use the feature for its stated purpose (re-rolling a crafter with minimal prior adventuring) and not simply as a way to push reset on any old character you no longer like.

That’s a good question. They’ve allowed good characters to betray to evil and then do all the evil questlines, to get additional AA.

The issue is what if you’ve done your Epic on your Illusionist and then switch to a Berserker.

Maybe they’ll cap it so you cannot be over level 30 on your adventure level to reset it.

It’s worthy of a good discussion with lots of developer feedback. Will that happen? O.o

TSkill Quests certainly can grant AA experience. Try doing the SF series with a lowbie Adventurer/90 Crafter and see what happens! And it’s not just Disco AA, either.

The problem with removing AAs with a class change is that it would be extremely difficult to get them back, and significantly more time consuming if you’ve exhausted all available quests and named kills. I don’t see it happening.

I can see resetting your level to that of a lower level, but without resetting your AAs in the process. It’s not nearly as difficult to re-earn levels, and it won’t be as hard to code either.

There’s also the possibility of just a simple class switch, akin to what betrayal does. If they go that route I would assume it would follow the same rules as Betrayal already does.

Has anyone thats done the crafter epic reset their crafter class, have you been able to do it a second time? (I’m not sure if anyone out there actually would). However, Feldon, I think that even if you completed your epic on one class, you’d be able to do it on your new class because it’s a different NPC and a different quest. But who knows…I think they should cap it at level 30 or 40. I know usually by that time if I don’t like a class.

Removing the aa would be a mess to say the least. You would also have to reset all quests and allow them to do it again. Otherwise you cannot reset the aa’s. Same thing goes for named kills, discovery, etc.

I’d prefer you not reset the AA, after all, you’ve earned it! Most if not all of the tradeskill quests give AA. I’d also really rather not see an adventure level limit added. My SK is crafter-only and a level 90 armorer. After wandering around 50 zones doing tradeskill and holiday/event quests she’s level 44 adventurer. All the disco really adds up.

I’d cry if they ever touched any of my AAs. They’re such a pain to level up as it is.

I am not saying they must reset AA. I just don’t know what they will do.

I think if they allow you to keep your AAs and completed quests, I can already predict what PLAYERS will do.

How long until someone has completed all 24 epic weapon quests on ONE toon and displays all 24 weapons in their house? 😉
