Rothgar: Big UI Changes Coming with GU57

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance

From SOE-Rothgar on EQ2Interface:

Rest up because you’re most likely going to have a lot of work to do when GU57 hits test server in just over a week!

I can’t go into a lot of detail right now, but we’ve made some pretty big UI changes for 57. The default UI is getting a re-skin and many windows have been modified.

We’ll post more when we can.

This was posted on July 16th, so that would put Game Update 57 onto Test as early as the end of this week.

I wonder if the new hotkey window will have griffins on either side:P

    We’ll see what happens.

*prays they don’t make the UI look like WoW’s* Well… LOTR did it, and Vanguard “attempted” it. It seems to be a trend.

Bit more customization would be nice in the UI, my XML is rusty an there code is cap, but more flexiblity would be nice

Sounds like a good idea, personally something organised like WoW’s as a default wouldn’t be a bad idea I think although I wouldn’t call it copying WoW, instead I’d call it copying WAR as they have for me the best mix.

The reason I like the WAR one is because it has the total flexibility that EQ2 has (WoW does not have this, all the bars have to be in set positions and set sizes).

But it also has a HUD and a set of push-button defaults, while I expect a lot of experienced players will moan seeing this copied I think its great because new players can just use a default and concentrate their time instead playing the game, and experienced players can then modify it to their hearts content.

So the EQ2 interface + some defaults (and maybe an attractive optional HUD) would be my hope for this change.

The other thing I wonder though, will they push performance improvements with this? Having the UI run on a seperate core would be a nice nudge for improved FPS since I understand the current one is a bit CPU intensive.

This should be a good thing for new players and possibly veterans as well. I think we’ve been waiting years for this change, since it was first announced.

I hope in the end you can keep your current interface as I’ve tweaked mine over years of play. A completely customizable interface used to be a big feature they trumpeted.

All my accounts have expired but one, it’s good till September sometime, I’ll be sure to log in and check this out once it’s released.
