New Exceptional Jewel Adornments Trip Up Mix-and-Matchers

One of the more interesting features teased at the Altar of Malice systems panel at SOE Live 2014 last summer was the concept of Adornment Set Bonuses. As described, players who applied adornments from the same set would receive a lucrative bonus effect or set of stats. However when the Altar of Malice expansion arrived, the set bonuses were found to be relatively limited and even nonsensical, leading most players to ignore them and freely mix-and-match adornments to min/max their characters. Players guessed that an interesting idea on paper hadn’t turned out to be compelling enough to require another layer of decision-making to players.

Now six months after the release of the expansion, the Rum Cellar DLC has introduced new adornments that have brought this discussion back to the forefront. So far, the feedback from this introduction has been mixed as players must now consider some new choices. For starters, these new Exceptional Jewel adornments consume a slot traditionally reserved for the powerful War Runes — the Cloak slot. Further, only certain adornment sets include the popular Shoulder choices of 6% Flurry and 6% Doublecast. Players must now decide whether they’ll give up one of their five War Rune adornments AND a certain amount of freedom of choice in exchange for these bonuses.

The dev team have been taking feedback about these new adorns and there have already been some changes to them since they launched as far as how they display in-game, and being dropped as player-selectable patterns. This is being discussed in a few places on the EQ2 Forums:

If the 8th set bonus on some of these actually were designed for the classes that would wear them, then it would actually be fine, but seeing some of these bonuses, like a mage 8th set bonus on the Tanking Adorn set makes me wonder what were there intentions with these.

      Yeah, that’s pretty frustrating.

I need to see the stats on all four adorns before I can judge these. I like the war runes, so these seem like a tough sell.

I want to know why they all say combat art for the instant cast, I want my spells. 🙂

Because, apparently, there’s a display bug and when we inspect them it’s not showing the actual effect(s) on the item which, according to Kander, will be fixed “Soon(tm).”

It’s already there – that’s what Doublecast is. The Superiority effect just extends that benefit to combat arts as well.

Double cast was supposed to be the same as multi attack. Not instant cast. We had an item last xpac that allowed for an instant cast after a time warp or a mana flow. would have to look in my old inventory. So this is just allowing melee classes the chance at a free cast.

you are incorrect. When our Assassin gets 3 FFU’s in 30 seconds. I can’t get three EB’s (Ima conj L2 Abbreviate) in nearly that time.
