Windstalker Responds: Voice Chat and Chat Lag

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance

Update from Windstalker:

This is obviously unacceptable and we are actively looking into it.

As much as possible, send a PM to Dexella or contact the TSR’s in the thread with the time (or timeframe), server, zone(s) and character name if possible where you noticed the issue.

I’m going to be watching over this and trying to get some action on it ASAP. The most detail we can get from you, the more we can start narrowing this down for a fix.

Again, apologies folks.

From the EQ2 Forums:

To reply to the post on the Voice Chat issues. We are well aware of the problem and have enlisted Vivox, our partner who runs those services, to help get in to fix the problem.

Two weeks ago, the Vivox servers were upgraded to the latest versions which did fix a lot of bugs and obviously introduced some new ones that we are very frustrated with.

We have been pouring over the user feedback also and we do recognize these issues started in April/May when we updated Skyshrine.

We have Ops teams here and at Vivox looking at Voice Chat and we’ll keep you updated.

On text chat lag, we are aware of those issues too and isolating the problem.

On the post regarding the Ethereal weapons — they are far from fluff.  I don’t want to give too many details away as you will start seeing the details on them soon enough.

Trackback from your site.

Wow “We have been pouring over the user feedback also and we do recognize these issues started in April/May when we updated Skyshrine.”

Apparently it has taken 4 months to figure out something that people were telling them less than 40 minutes after Skyshrine launched.

Text chat lag is unbearable – especially for raid loot bidding or timely quips 🙂

also the target cast bar only lasts 2 seconds and then disappears, leaving you to guess when a detriment is actually going to hit.

It’s not only chat lag and voice chat issue. The whole game is laging since SOe changed their internet provider. It’s so freaking laggy that programs like Raid Hub or ACT sometimes bug due to the lag levels and I’m not talking about the 5-6 LD we get per raid.

it would be nice if it lasted 2 seconds more like .2 seconds.
But I am getting used to it now lol…

Really? You want us to tell you every time we notice this issue?
This would be like every minute to five minutes … ffs

Just a psa: It seems that eq2 has been creating dump files in people’s C: drive at the location of C:\crash\ (Mine was 12 gbs large, a friend had 36 gbs) Suffice it to say eq2 uploads these files to try to debug crashes, but who knows if this is causing lag or causes more crashes.

Anyway here is the thread in the eq2 support forums:

well its not unreasonable to ask people to make an intelligent post or support ticket instead of “ZOMG CHAT LAGGGGGG!!!!111” (an exaggeration but sometimes not).

It could be some kind of attack on the system from either within the game or outside, if it’s not crappy code or servers.
maybe someone is spamming a ton of mail or something like that and stressing the system.
(mail is like chat, since it is also lagged when clicking on the mailbox until the text pops up in the chat window, if you type than click the mailbox when the chat is lagged)

It could even be someone in another SOE game, since IIRC their chats are all linked together. anyone check out EQ or Vanguard?

People should check out your crash folder like Rocky posted…

I just deleted mine… it had 79 gigabytes in it. That’s absurd

There weren’t this many voice issues before Vivox became a partner.

There weren’t any voice issues at all before Vivox. There also wasn’t any voice capability.

Feldon: Didn’t SOE host Voice Chat in house? If not, I stand corrected.

Rasa, No, there WAS no voice chat until Vivox got into the picture.
