The Case of the Mysteriously Disappearing Feathers and Red Books
Over the last month, a growing number of players have reported missing Quest Feathers and Quest Books. The feather and book icons are invisible, leaving only the yellow or white wisp appearing above each NPC’s name.
People have reported the occurrence of the problem after updating DirectX, while others have reported temporarily alleviating the problem by /camping their characters.
This issue is being discussed on the EQ2 Forums.

Happened to me for a couple of hours yesterday, but when I relogged it fixed itself.
I actually preferred it. They should add it as an option.

This same bug is also disappearing things like the pixie on a string. So it’s part of a larger glitch.

The wisp looks better than the book/feather.

I have not updated direct x in a while, but I do get this every now and then, starting around the AoD release. Relogging does fix it.

(and the problem with ‘the wisp looks better than the book/feather’ is that it’s harder to see from far away and obviously only has one state, so does not change if it should have been a feather or should have been a book)

Relogging doesn’t fix it, only remedies it…these types of word misuses is what keeps soe from actually FIXING things…

A work around is to use your map, if you can’t tell if it should be a book or a feather … map still shows a different icon.

In Moors, the cannon that normally shoots you across in a barrel, is now transforming you into a wisp, and propelling you across. Same or related bug, apparently.

Also, the phantasmal skulls house item, the skulls look like wisps sometimes, same bug I assume
