EQ2 Takes to the Air with Flying Squirrels

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Daybreak Cash

The first Flying Squirrel mount, first premiered at Fan Faire, has been introduced to EverQuest II. It’s been added to the StationCash Marketplace for 1950SC ($19.50 or $6.50 if you stocked up during a triple SC weekend). Despite the name, the Flying Squirrel is a glider and thus available at level 60. We presume that there will be other color choices in the future, perhaps a darker brown, red, or even silver.

According to Tom “ttobey” Tobey, this mount was modeled by Steve Merghart and animated by Chris Myers.

After the jump, a bit less fanciful screenshot of the Brown Tree Glider mount.

I will never be a concept artist because I keep asking myself silly questions like… how does this “squirrel” crack nuts with those fangs?

Seeing this makes me feel like I’m in a cheap Asian FTP game.

The problem is they seem to think every mount has to be menacing or mean. Why not just have a cute squirrel mount? I think people would like it just as well. Not everything in the game has to be deadly …

I got one of these and people in my guild can’t stop staring at it. One member said this was the first mount she’s ever seen with a personality. I believe she’s right. The animation and cute/uncuteness it represents draws people to it.

The speed of the mount on the ground is a little too slow. So I only use it for show while my equipped mount is a storm whistle.

Evidently the drunken Friday after work party at Tony Roma’s can yield results.

I love the mount. I don’t use gliders, so I have him set for the appearance for my ground mount. I’d love to have him as an appearance for my flying mount but that wont ever happen.

As for being a flying squirrel.. Its closer to a Sugar Glider in both appearance, and movement.

People want variety. I am not one for glider mounts, but there is nothing wrong with giving others options.

Where is the lore? Where can you find these things any where else in the game? Come the kucf on, at least use creatures that are in the game. Yes they are need looking but this is just dumb.

Sabertooth squirrel ?? totally ghey. How about some pink polka dot hippos instead ?? The raptor mounts look really cool but the jumping thing is really stoopid. They look like a bunch of fleas jumping off a dogs back. Plus they slow my machine down. I wish there was some way to turn these animations off.

This mount fits fine if a fae or some other nature bound charakter using it.
An Oger on it… aehm.. looks stupid, but peolple also wear pink dresses…

None then less this mount has very nice animations.

Pretty silly looking, especially how the character sits in the saddle – not to mention it looks particularly painful for males, especially when that things starts leaping about.

It’s a bit silly and that’s okay. I give it a 6/10. If they’d left it with buck teeth, made it stay small and shrink the rider to fit then it’d be at least a 9/10 for me…even as a glider.

I love this mount, but then again I also have been /feedbacking the addition of squirrels and other woodland critters other than badgers and deer for years. The animations are articulate. All in all I would say this is the best mount they have added.

This is bad.look at the mounts on Forasken World.Hellblazers w/ fire comming off their hoofs, black and red. Tigers w/ blue flames,Dragons that breathe fire,or cute Mystal Horses that look etheral,etc..It’s eating a large nut. I like EQ2 in all ways but cmon guys, really it’s weird and tacky, think cool, mystical, or sleek and dangerous

I’ve been using my 20 paladin horse in my appearance slot for a while now. My main is a paladin, he should be on a horse….not a rodent.

What is it holding? A pinecone? I also keep thinking of the scenes in Emperor’s New Groove where Kronk talks to the squirrel. If I had one of these, I’d be saying squeaker squeak squeakums (e.g., I need another acorn!).
