If you’ve been playing for a a few years, you have probably accumulated several channel numbers which no longer work, yet you cannot leave. For example Good_Ranger, Good_Crafters, Level 80, etc.
One solution is to use /setchannelnumber old# new# to move the channel up to say 99 where it won’t bother you. This is what I did for a while.
There is also a channel number management program you can get at EQ2Interface.
But if you are handy with Notepad, just open your uisettings file. You are looking for
Server Name_Character Name_eq2_uisettings.xml
for example:
Butcherblock_Feldon_eq2_uisettings.xml
Inside this file you will find a section labeled ChatChannels. You can then remove channels as needed making sure to remove entire lines of text without leaving extra < and > characters.
<ChatChannels joined=”true” version=”2″>
<Channel index=”1″ name=”Level_10-19″ />
<Channel index=”2″ name=”Level_20-29″ />
<Channel index=”3″ name=”Level_30-39″ />
<Channel index=”4″ name=”Level_40-49″ />
<Channel index=”5″ name=”Level_50-59″ />
<Channel index=”6″ name=”Level_60-69″ />
<Channel index=”8″ name=”Level_80″ />
<Channel index=”9″ name=”90″ />
<Channel index=”10″ name=”Crafting” />
<Channel index=”11″ name=”Help” />
<Channel index=”12″ name=”Auction” />
<Channel index=”13″ name=”Newbie” />
<Channel index=”14″ name=”Good” />
<Channel index=”15″ name=”Ranger” />
</ChatChannels>
Note that the Level_80 channel no longer exists, having been replaced with 80-89. This is fine, except that it was giving me a “you do not have permission to join that channel” error on login, and does not appear on the chat options menu as something you can leave because it no longer exists. As long as you’re editing your UI settings, it’s better to just wipe that line out.
