From the EQ2 Forums:
Greetings all.
An update on Battlegrounds and server issues.
Battlegrounds will be down until at least tomorrow. While the BGs are down, we’ll be collecting data on the current server issues as an aid to tracking down what is causing the the lag and slow zoning times.
We’ll be tracking the data with the BGs both off and on. If they appear to significantly affect the issues we’re seeing on the live servers, we’ll have them off over the weekend.
We’ll let you know any further information we can share when we have it.
We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience as we try to track down the problems and iron out the bugs.

My patience with this game has dropped to an all time low since about 2 weeks after BG was released and since then I’ve just stopped playing the game because of never being able to go anywhere in the game!
Would be nice if I could just get a different .Exe and just be able to run the game without running Everquest first.
Heres a idea get rid of bg, promblem solved
Turn this crappy BG server off and let us raid please.
Screw you guys, give me my battlegrounds back, just fix whatever is causing the lag so i can raid too.
I’m not entirely sure it’s only Battlegrounds. Last night (4/21/10) Battlegrounds was down, but my entire guild was still having issues zoning. After almost an hour of people dropping to character select or being stuck at “waiting for zone info.” we had cancel the raid, yet, the BGs were off. So, IF they were off . . . what exactly IS causing the problem? I’m not implying they aren’t a contributing factor, but someting else is going on that Sony needs to figure out.
I am betting on a few really poor database calls that need optimisation, and a very poor choice of database software. Battlegrounds probably exasperate the issue some, but it is far from the cause.
