We are now less than 4 weeks away from the launch of Kunark Ascending. EverQuest II’s thirteenth expansion includes a sprawling new overland zone The Obulus Frontier.
From EverQuest2.com:
Not every adventure will have you awaken on a pirate ship bound for ports of unknown villainy, but in Kunark Ascending you will find yourself under Captain Zythox’s hospitality. Your respite will be brief as you approach the Obulus Frontier.
You’ll begin your adventure in Kunark Ascending with The Crusader’s Cave, and likely find a few of its volcanic inhabitants less than welcoming.
A ruin of a once-great Iskar fort is sitting on the cliffs of Northern Kunark. Twark has been claimed by the Bloody Tooth goblins who will viciously attack unwelcome visitors, so enter only if you dare.
Named after a Hill Giant general responsible for much of the giants’ success in resisting the Iksarian empire, Warslik’s Wood is Kunark’s Northernmost forest. Don’t let this quiet vegetation fool you; angry Forest giants, Iksar, and other nightmares wander the woods looking for easy prey.
A wonder of both craftsmanship and magic, Nye’Caelona overlooks Warslik’s Wood to the west and a beautiful garden east, housing both exotic and deadly species. The presence of both Elves and Mountain Giants shows the tentative mutual respect between these races. Adventurers will find themselves here to trade, rest, and prepare for their next journey.
Can’t wait to make your way to the Obulus Frontier? Pre-ordering the Kunark Ascending expansion will give you immediate access to the Beta, so you can experience Kunark in a way you never have before!
Screens look fabulous.
Those overland zones look fantastic. Looks like EQ2 is getting back on course in this regard after ignoring them in recent years.
Actually pumped now. I’ve moved on from my gotta get the gear days and am much more interested in questing in cool places, exploring, this looks very promising.
There’s more variety in Obulus than there was in Thalumbra, so that alone is a great improvement…
I like the vibe I get from that 3rd screenshot.
Definitely one of the coolest overland zones in a good while.
Compare Obulus with the rest of Kunark and you can see how far they’ve come with art quality since Kunark – and Kunark already was a big step up from the vanilla game with the light and fog transitions within an overland zone.
Makes one wish they’d have a Blizzard budget and could “remaster” old zones.
Love the 4th screenshot, this how a dark forrest looks!
But im not sure if it makes sense to get into the newest expa, have not played since 6 month and have not tried the last expa… but i have done the epic 1.0 😀
