Network routing issues continue to plague the Splitpaw, Storms, and Valor servers, rendering raiding, grouping, and yes, even crafting neigh impossible. Although these issues aren’t within the SOE data center in Amsterdam, they still need to be addressed with the responsible parties (ISPs) to provide a playable experience for those subscribers.
After initially (and non-constructively) locking threads about Splitpaw, Storms, and Valor Routing issues and directing people to open individual /petitions, an EU Server Performance (November 2011) thread has been created in the Tech Support: Connection Support area where this issue can now be collaboratively addressed.
From Joshua M:
We are experiencing ongoing connectivity and latency issues for a great deal of players connecting to Splitpaw and Valor. The issue itself does exist outside of our control but SOE is doing everything we can to assist in resolving the source of the problem. I’ll do my best to provide updates as this progresses but I cannot discuss, nor do I have, specifics.
Please keep all reports on this issue right here. The intent here is to track the issue and so that you, the player, have an avenue to report that you are also affected. This is not a soap box. Commentary should be left to a discussion forums outside of the support boards of which there are many to choose from. I am simply creating a centralized location that I can provide more information as it comes to me.
and:
It is understandable that many people are upset over this and SOE is doing everything it can to help resolve the issue. Keywords being ‘help resolve’, the problem itself exists outside of our control.
and as to why this isn’t getting fixed faster:
…In order for your data to reach our servers it must pass through many 3rd party routers. It is an actual physical link in the most literal sense. If any of these ‘hops’ experience issues or latency, everything after it will be affected such as your connection with the servers.
That is the issue we are experiencing. Several ‘hops’ are experiencing their own, external, issues. This is why SOE cannot affect it. We do not own the affected hardware and the best we can do is put the pressure on to let them know exactly how many of our mutual customers are being affected.
If you are a Splitpaw, Storms, or Valor user and have been having latency (lag) to these servers, you can run a Traceroute and Pathping report (easy instructions provided by SOE to save these reports from your computer to a text file) and post them to the EU Server Performance (November 2011) thread. Your report might just help SOE Tech Support with narrowing down which 3rd party ISPs may be part of the issue.
Note: There have been some widespread routing problems on the internet with Level3 and other internet providers related to Juniper BPG routers. It’s unclear if the Juniper BPG problem is to blame for these continuing issues. The BPG issue requires each ISP to install a software update.
Storms is also under lag.
But apparently we have a different SLA than rest of EQ2 players… 🙁
WOW – pretty consistant for SoE. First deny there is a problem and lock or delete threads that point to a problem. Then when they discover there is a problem they point to a collection thread. I admit that this is a good thing, them helping and ptting pressure on the ISP that is screwing everyone over, but come on guys ! When your customers report a problem, why follow Toyotas’ lead of first denying there is a problem … why not say “Oh … you guys have a problem … we will look into it. Give us a couple hours and we will see what we can find out” instead of deleting the threads and ignoring the problem. I really don’t know if we are seeing a change in CS or just more of the same … maybe things are getting better. They are at least working on this … and this isn’t even THEIR problem. Maybwe we can convince them that itimazation is caused by sunspots and they will make an effort to fix it.
Relax…game is going F2P…everything will be better then.
@Steve I see what you did there.
