From DaybreakGames.com:

Hey Daybreak fans!

For the past year, we have sold Daybreak game cards in select U.S. retailers (Walmart, Target, GameStop, Toys R Us, and Best Buy). We have decided not to continue selling the physical game cards in stores; instead, Daybreak Cash (and/or All Access Membership), will be available in digital-only formats, direct from Daybreak on the web or in-game.

Daybreak game cards will no longer be available at U.S. retailers beginning the week of September 26, 2016. If you have a purchased Daybreak game card that you have not yet redeemed, you will still be able to redeem it on line.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. H1Z1 no longer using DBC, physical cards being pulled from the stores…let’s hope this is just them not wanting to share the selling price with retailers and not preparations for selling off or cancelling “legacy” titles.

These cards were super popular when you got extra cash like 25 for buying a 20 card or when SOE offered double and triple rewards….those days have been long gone and I’m sure the loss of these bonuses is the main reason these cards lost their appeal to buyers.

Aye, I haven’t bothered with these since they stopped bonus rewards for redeeming them.

Noctew “not wanting to share the selling price with retailers and not preparations for selling off or cancelling “legacy” titles.”

Likely choice number one, combined with eliminating the cost of production and distribution of the cards.

When SOE (now Daybreak Games) was being strutted around, according to multiple articles there were multiple bidders. As I understand it, ‘He who will not be named’ picked the company that would give Him the best deal.

LOL, ‘How is that working out for you?’ ‘He who will not be named’?

I’m betting an investment company would rather see instant cash from selling a property, than shutting it down. The catch is the next buyer could be total garbage.

Columbus Nova has been making ‘moves’ that feel like getting Daybreak Games ready for a sale. However those are the same ‘moves’ for a long term investment, so “Don’t Panic.”

However a sale, to certain companies, may not be a bad thing. Like the name of a company mentioned in the other forum.

“the medium it seems most interested in right now is gaming. Amazon has made a number of moves, acquisitions, and hires over the last few years that emphasize its desire to enter the gaming market — and it makes sense.”

To borrow from Henny Youngman, ‘Take my game … please.’

I’m sure it worked very well for him. He got his golden parachute (dollar amount remains a mystery).

I wonder how/if things would work out if the Devs got together and bought the company.
Dream on, I know, but just a thought.

I wouldn’t mind my subscription falling under Amazon Prime, honestly, since I already have it. Best $100/year I could spend honestly…

I totally agree with that comment on it being included in prime! I just never want to lose EQ1 or 2 I was raised on those games. Ive been playing for like 16 years.

I haven’t even seen these around in years, even before the double/triple redemption days ended. (Which I remain convinced happened because someone at SOE finally figured out how to operate a spreadsheet.)

      Pretty much.

The only place I saw them before with any regularity was one Wal-Mart near me then the store got a new manager a couple of years ago & I haven’t seen a card in there since. I don’t know what they did with them, but they weren’t put out.

I have yet to see a physical game card in a store (not for lack of looking) in my area since they switched to the new ones.

Not terribly surprised. Still, a sign of the times.

Reminder that one can always purchase a Visa Gift Card or similar if you need to buy digital currently in any MMO.

Of course, a Visa Gift Card charges you pay an additional $4.95 regardless of how much the card is for. With the DBG cards there was no additional cost.

It was only a year ago in October 2015 that Daybreak was touting these new cards as Collectors items and suggesting that players collect all four of these brand new cards.

Now with them out of print and their availability limited, the value is only sure to skyrocket. Buy now why the street price is low! This is a can’t miss investment opportunity!

I’ll be sure to store mine (in air tight plastic and out of direct sunlight) right next to my Beanie Babies and my US Franklin Mint commemorative Harry S. Truman dinner plates…

Miss the good ‘ole days when Target and Gamestop would have a sale on those cards for $10 each.

That’s depressing. I always enjoyed receiving these as gifts.
