House Actors (placeable customizable NPCs for your house) were introduced yesterday, but now we have a trailer video highlighting this new feature.

From the EQ2 Forums:

You can now decorate your Norrathian homes with animated characters! Dress and animate your House Actors however you want! Add one or an army to your homes!

Love this new addition to EQ2’s housing system. Sure its not monumental or groundbreaking or anything, but its a nice little addition for decorators.

My only gripe with it is the fact that whatever we name the actors doesn’t get placed over their heads like it would for guild hall NPC’s for example, and the fact we can’t just hail them to get their greeting like a quest NPC for example.

Having their name above their head would make them far more visible and useful. Currently the only we can see their name is by watching out for their Greeting echoed in the chat tab, so they can be really easily missed when wandering through someones house.

Great little addition though, I have already employed a Troll barwench in one of my taverns, who goes by the name of Sweetcheeks, whose greeting is ‘Welcome! Can I offer you a drink… or something? *nudge nudge*’ (and she will do the nudge emote). Made me chuckle anyhow :P.

Names above their heads would be nice. Having speech bubbles would be nice too! I’m always wondering why pet’s no long have their names above their heads, too, though….. Been that way for a couple years now, and nobody has fixed it 0_o
