If $25 for a set of armor, furniture, or mount seemed to stretch your definition of microtransaction, you’re not alone. Many items in the EQ2 Marketplace have had their prices permanently lowered by an average of 35%. Additionally, a Marketplace Sale which shall run until April 4th has temporarily reduced some items by 65%.
SmokeJumper started a thread entitled Massive price cuts in the marketplace:
If you like the items in the marketplace, but never felt like they were in your price range, be sure to check it out now. We’ve been thinking a lot about the prices there and we came to the conclusion that many of the prices were just too high.
So now, most items are reduced by more than half what they used to be. EQ2X’ers should definitely check out the “Consumables” category, because those are the items that you get but aren’t available to the EQII Live folks. Stuff like Power and Heal potions, Self-Rez scrolls, Portable Globes, Unlockers, etc. have all had their prices slashed. You should find them a lot more affordable now.
From EverQuest2.com:
We’ve lowered our standard pricing on items all throughout the EQII Marketplace, so there’s never been a better time to shop. Take a look around and you’re sure to find some deals you can’t pass up.
But wait, there’s more! For a limited time, select armory items in the Marketplace are available at up to 65% OFF! This sale ends April 4th, so don’t delay!
All Heritage Armor 65% off! (Was 1750, now 600 SC.) After the sale, prices will go back up to 1250 SC for the Dark Elf, Ogre and Gnome Heritage Amor, and Human Heritage Armor will return to 1750 SC.
Wings are also available at 65% off! (Was 1000, now 350 SC.) Prices will go to 650 SC when the sale is over.
Don’t miss our mounts for 65% off! (Was 2500, now 850 SC.)
Very cool. I’m glad they’re willing to reexamine their pricing strategy. This is a welcome change! I’m especially glad to see housing expanders have dropped in price drastically, well ahead of the future multiple-home ownership feature’s implementation.
LOL, haven’t we been telling them this from day 1? Guess that means all the have to have people have bought what they wanted. Now to see if the prices are actually worth it.
That’s probably the stupidest and most insulting marketing strategy I have ever seen.
That’s why they kept prices high. Now, they’ll lower them, and then lower them again when sales drop off. They’re just milking money out of you.
The price was given and people had a choice, personally I’ve managed to go without buying anything from the marketplace for years, apart from two appearance items for the mystic to get rid of the dog (I just don’t like dogs) and a charity thing.
Honestly, its the same deal when I sell something on ebay, ultimately its up for the customer to decide whether they want to buy it or not.
