  1. I suspect the total cost of development for EQ Next will be closer to $200 million than $50 million. The departure of Rothgar puts something of a cloud over that development as he was the leading hand in implementing the visualization of voxels using meshes in EQ Next. Something for someone else to pick up now,

I will have to look at into what sort of game “Molten Games” is developing it might be an interesting project.

    1. $200 million? You’re kidding me. Very few games have anywhere close to a budget that size. Most of which goes directly towards massive marketing (See: SWTOR) PR. You honestly think SoE has that sort of money in the first place? No way. And I highly doubt SCEA, or rather Sony would be willing to hand that money over to SoE and trust that the money would be a good investment in terms of profit.

  2. Rothgar was one of the first devs that I got to really interact with in this game, I still have his christmas lights display saved on my computer and I will definitely be looking at any game he has an active part in, gonna miss you rothgar.

  3. Wow I can remember right after the server merges when we got merged into GUK server actually talking to rothgar. He seamed like a heck of a nice guy. I always wondered what happened and why he transferred off of guk.

That being said, I wonder what that has to say for the development of eqnext. Seams several folks are jumping ship before the product is ready, and that is always a sign of things not going well.
