From the EQ2 Forums:
A new day is dawning in Norrath. Head back to the beginning, gear up and group up, and race with your fellow adventurers! Do you and your friends have what it takes to make it to defeat the final event boss before others on the server? Do so, and you will be handsomely rewarded! (And there are rewards aplenty even if you’re not FIRST!) EverQuest II’s first event server, The Race to Trakanon, is scheduled to open on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
What are Event Servers? What is the Race to Trakanon Event Server?
Event servers are something new for EverQuest II. Each event server will only be available for a limited time, and it’ll be set in some previous era of EverQuest II content. The Race to Trakanon will be set in Rise of Kunark.
Based on your achievements on an event server, players can earn rewards that can be claimed a character on another server of your choice.
Event Servers require an All Access Membership, and will only be available for a limited time.
What [Special Rewards]?
Regardless of playstyle, there’s something available for everyone on the Race to Trakanon.
Rewards come from completing various set achievements on the server. Completing the event achievements will give you event server currency, which allows you to work towards the rewards you’re interested in. Players can claim the event server currency on a LIVE character, and then can use it at the Event Server reward merchant that is located on the docks in Kylong Plains on all servers.
Special Note: TLE progression servers will not be able to access this merchant until Rise of Kunark is unlocked on their server.
If you’re looking for a challenge, there are different, special rewards available to those players that are the FIRST to achieve certain things, such as Adventure Levels, or getting your class’ epic. All rewards are granted via an account claim.
Some of the more unique rewards for being the first to achieve something on the Race to Trakanon:
- First Level 80 – Special Relic Armor Pieces
- First 10 Level 80 – Special Cyan Adornments
- First 100 players to kill Trakanon – Special Relic Charms
For each class:
- First to obtain Epic – Special Cloak Adornments
- First 10 to obtain Epic – Special Cyan Adornments
There will also be special titles available for doing the following on The Race to Trakanon:
- Getting Level 30 – “the Prodigious”
- Getting Level 80 – “the Paramount”
- Getting your Epic – “the Epic Completionist”
- First 100 characters to defeat Trakanon – “Slayer of Trakanon”
Special Server Rules
To keep things interesting during the Race to Trakanon, there are additional special server rules.
- Reduced experience rates
- Increased encounter difficulty
- Limited Marketplace
- The Marketplace will be similar to what items are offered on the TLE server Stormhold. The major exception will be that items from the consumables/experience category will not be available for purchase on the Race to Trakanon server.
- The Beastlord and Channeler classes will not be available
- Mount speed reduction
- NO experience bonuses for max characters on account
- NO Veteran Claims
- NO Guildhalls
- NO Battlegrounds server access
- NO Live Events (City Festivals, Tinkerfest, etc.)
- NO Tradeskill writs
When Does The Event End?
The server will run at for a minimum of three months. While we expect that there will be players that defeat Trakanon much earlier than that time, we want to give players the opportunity to earn event server currency at their own pace, and use that currency for rewards for characters on other servers.
Once there are 30 days remaining on the server, we’ll let players know and all players will receive a transfer token that will let them move from the Race to Trakanon to a server that accepts transfers. If you don’t use your transfer token during the final 30-days of the server, your characters from The Race to Trakanon will be moved to Stormhold when the server closes.
Will YOU Join Us for the Race to Trakanon?
We’re excited to see which players and guilds excel during the event, and what parts of this server that players enjoy the most.
We’re looking forward having you join us for Race to Trakanon. This event server is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
GAME KILLER!!!!!!!
I admit I was initially shocked that they were going to move the Race to Trak people (go as fast as you can folks) into the Stormhold server (larger number of take your time and smell the flowers then live folks) together… then I wondered if it is an attempt to pad the vote for ‘unlock the next expac vote’ in the yes direction…
I feel sorry for the folks on the TLE server if they go through with it.
I was under the impression it was a new server… It does say “Event server opens July 12th.”
Players currently on TLE are concerned about this:
Once there are 30 days remaining on the server, we’ll let players know and all players will receive a transfer token that will let them move from the Race to Trakanon to a server that accepts transfers. If you don’t use your transfer token during the final 30-days of the server, your characters from The Race to Trakanon will be moved to Stormhold when the server closes.
The vote to unlock ROK on the TLE server is being held again. Players on TLE are concerned that they won’t be far enough along with ROK content before a possible influx of maxed out toons on the event server.
Ah. That is a bit odd. I missed that bit.
I can understand saving the characters from the event server, I guess (It’s never a problem having toons wiped on a Beta server, but I guess they are going easy on the event server patrons?)
But that is odd that they’d move them to the server that wasn’t supposed to have toons transferred in…
I really like this game but what’s up with the decisions
Major concern for quick cash grabs over longjevity of the game.
Quick cash grab is $350 or $400 for a guild hall.
After that BS, I was pleasantly shocked they are not going to have EXP potion on the Event Server’s marketplace. Would have been a huge money maker, allowing PTW on a race server, but they actually took the high road (ethically) and leveled the playing field.
I have enormous admiration for a game that holds off on PTW. (ANd no, exp potions on regular server are not PTW. That’s more of a “get the new players up to speed so the old players have fresh meat to play with.”
In a race, EXP potions are pure PTW. XD Dazedly happy DBG refrained from offering those in the situation. Quite admirable.
(I honestly thought, after the new GHs prices, the sales of xp potions would have been the main driving force behind a race themed new server! 0.0)
XD I’m just pleasantly shocked!
New stuff like this also keeps a game from getting stale between expansions, as well as can bring back old players. New players are more likely when a game is actually trying to liven things up.
The thing I find great about event servers is this; we don’t have to wait for all the work necessary for an expansion because it’s all recycled, but with a whole new goal. When the goal is reached, a new goal can be set, and the server reset. This is a perfect fit for the people who race to the end game, get bored, quit, come back for new endgame when it’s released, quit and come back. Retention of players is a good thing!
Oh, and unlike the two new guild halls, it’s priced reasonably (All you have to do is be a subscriber. Aside from that, it’s free.)
I asked Caith to be more specific about what bonuses/claims won’t be allowed as he only mentioned the goblin game tickets. If we have full access to our veteran rewards with no restrictions, then that is great.
Race for Players’ Wallets
There seems to be a logical disconnect between the idea that there’s no player demand for this kind of special server and the idea that it’s purely a cash grab. If there’s no demand for the two new special ruleset servers no money will be made.
Similarly, if there’s no demand, adding the servers can’t split the community. Everyone will simply stay put on the servers where they already play.
As far as I can see the only way these servers present any kind of threat to the status quo is if there actually IS a lot of interest in them. And, naturally, if that’s so then it does make sense to cater to that interest.
I think if they really wanted to know how the player base felt about these 2 new servers, they would have allowed us a “no” response on the poll.
o.0 How do you know there is no one in the entire game that doesn’t want to have a race to the end? Seems like that’s what happens any time there is new content. XD
I don’t plan to race because I’ve been to busy to even play normally lately (or so much as restock my broker with mass crafted items), but I am curious enough to make a toon there just to “/who all” on the first day.
I bet it’s going to be just as crowded and impossible to get any thing done as any other new attraction. XD
Also, keep in mind these are a temporary events. No one is going to put any time into their event server toon once the event is over if the server gets wiped each time an event ends. If they time these right, they’ll be released when the newest content is getting old and the new content will be released when the event is already completed by most of the players there.
It’s rather brilliant, if you think about it. They are working on new content for an expansion, so they recycle the game onto a new server for a temporary event that starts every player on a level playing feild, minimal amount of work required so time is not taken away from the expansion being created… It’s efficient AND makes players happy (Yes, even the ones who like to complain about everything and any thing… it’s free for christsakes, as long as you are a regular contributing member. I pay a year at a time, which is $9.99 a month, but I get $5.00 DBC a month, so with that “rebate” it’s $4.99 a month. [was about to include the 5 packs of LON, but that’s ending, and no equivalent incentive is being added to membership that I know of…] but still, It’s cheaper than Netflix. =P [I count the DBC as a rebate because I buy house items all the time, and that’s money I don’t have to use on DBC.)
And they aren’t even allowing EXP potions, which would have been HUGE PTW! I find that quite admirable of them. ^_^
I just think if you are going to do a poll, then provide more than only affirmative response choices if you want accurate information. The biggest concern I have about them adding 2 new servers is the impact it will have on the live server populations. When TLE was launched, AB lost a lot of players that never came back, for example. I guess time will tell.
Considering how 99% of all posts are people who are upset about something, chances are most of the people who liked the idea wouldn’t bother answering it, and all the “I hate everything” people would say no. XD That type would have nothing change till the game dies of stagnation.
I love how adamantly you defend anything that DBG does with this game.
XD I love how you ignore half of the posts I’ve ever made. XD
All your posts are you defending anything DBG does with this game no matter what.
How many are left to do this after yesterdays bans HAHAHA
How many bans were there? I knew a couple of folks in my raiding circle got hit…
Bans? What was that all about?
This from RadarX on the EQ2 forums:
Sooo there was a bit of a false positive and I think an automated detection got out of hand on the bans.
Are they admitting this and/or doing anything about it?
Is it the case of people being too good the so computers think they’re cheating?
This is the case of the game client falsely triggering and banning people.
An exploit or something?
False positives and false negatives. I noticed a handful of:
o the usual suspects/’cash botters’ remain in action
o players who use nothing more than ACT and/or Drum UI got suspended

The false positives must be a serious problem. DBG’s enforcer is putting out forum fires on a Saturday/weekend.

“Folks I’m going to go ahead and clarify a few things publicly.
First the conversations surrounding suspensions this week are over. If you were a part of that you have been made aware of how to proceed.
Those of you making accounts to avoid forum suspensions, it’s a rare and drastic thing to ban a play account over forum suspensions but at least one of you is a winner today.
PM me with concerns.” Tony Jones
The last round of ‘ban cheaters’ got little response from the customers; little collateral damage.
I feel sorry for the (ex?)coder who did the equivalent of ‘catching pods of dolphins in a net’.

“Transparency is unfortunately an overused and vague word in this industry. While companies do present varying levels of transparency absolutely no company is fully transparent. No one here is going to claim transparency without defining it.” Tony Jones

Let’s Be Real: Why Transparency in Business Should Be the Norm
“This expectation for transparency has extended beyond personal interactions and is now a reality in business. Across all industries, transparency has never been more important to a successful business model. Withholding or cleverly reshaping information is no longer a viable option for this new era of consumers who are savvier than any generation before them and for whom skepticism seems to be a default setting. In order to build brand loyalty, companies need to first build trust.”
“If people come to trust you and your company through transparency, they’ll be far more forgiving when you explain why something didn’t work or when you make a mistake.” Robert Craven, CEO
Seems kind of dumb, but could be a pleasing diversion from the standard gameplay.
Every time I stop to check in on the Forums or here at Feldon’s lately, it seems that every story I read reminds me that I haven’t cancelled my accounts yet.
