In addition to the Solo and Advanced Solo dungeons in Altar of Malice, there is actually quite a lot that soloers can do each day and each week to acquire armor and [eq2u]Far Seas Ferrin[/eq2u], this expansion’s currency. If you use the popular EQ2MAP UI modification, then the location of nearly all of these mission starters can be found there. There’s also some info on the EQ2 Forums. Weekly Overland Missions
Both overland zones — Tranquil Sea and Phantom Sea — offer a weekly mission to dispatch three named monsters. Each weekly mission awards 15 Far Seas Ferrin. Whether you’re on the quest or not, each named drops either a [eq2u]Yellow Malice Gemstone[/eq2u] or [eq2u]Blue Malice Gemstone[/eq2u] and a piece of armor. Not surprisingly these names are heavily camped!
Markable Objects
There are 20 markable objects (“Kilroy was here!”) throughout Tranquil Sea and Phantom Sea. Marking them all grants Far Seas Ferrin, an Achievement, and a Title.
Daily Overland Missions
Finally, there are 11 daily missions throughout the overland zones. These are a mixture of amusing and frustrating, but the reward for completing each one — 2-5 plat, Adventure XP, 5,000 Status, a unique Achievement for each, and 3 [eq2u]Far Seas Ferrin[/eq2u] — absolutely makes them worth it. The first time you complete each of these timed missions, you will receive an additional 30,000 status.
If you fail to complete a mission in the time allotted (pretty much guaranteed your first time through as you learn where the updates are), you can try again in one hour. Completed missions have a 24 hour cooldown.
CAUTION: Missions that require killing mobs or seeking updates around populated areas will require exceptional gear, another player, or a class-appropriate mercenary.
NOTE: For many of these quests, repeatedly pressing the F key while moving the mouse can help complete them more quickly. The F key triggers the default action on whatever point on the screen that the mouse cursor is currently hovering over.
Daily Overland Missions – Tranquil Seas
Seagull Slaying
Start: Click on a discarded hunting bow at {1108,72,757}.
You must click on 50 seagulls within the time allotted. You may click on the seagulls while on a flying mount. If you want to fly to the point where they spawn {1125,83,711}, you might have a better chance at targeting them. At one time, you needed to equip the bow but this is no longer a requirement.
Time: 2 minutes.
Difficulty: Ouch!
The Great Truffle Hunt
Start: Click on a sparkling mushroom at {814,29,996}.
It’s time to pig out! No really. After you eat a mushroom, you’ll be turned into a pig. After you stop giggling madly at the sight of a pig standing atop a gryphon or other mount, run around and click on mounds of dirt at the base of the nearby trees to spawn mushrooms. You must eat 10 mushrooms in the time allotted. Sometimes, you’ll be caught in “a game trap“. If you get trapped, target the trap, press F, target the trap again, and then spam the F key to Free yourself. If you get too many traps, you will run out of time.
Time: 4 minutes.
Difficulty: Ouch!
Reel ‘Em In
Start: Click the fishing pole at {-532,6,562} near the Pygmy Village.
Now spam-click on the pond (you do not need to equip the fishing pole) repeatedly until you catch 10 fish. Sometimes you will be knocked back or attacked by crabs. Once you have the fish, you must fly as quickly as you can to the blue quest update dot on your map. You can use water spouts to fly faster. You need to click on the lobster traps just outside the fence at {-650,7,266} to restock the fish supplies.
Time: 4 minutes
Difficulty: Tricky
Spinal Tap
Start: Click an Allu’thoa brazier at {-1243,127,-391}.
Kill 20 Allu’thoa spinemaster. It’s easy to fly around and round up 5-6 of them at a time and then find a convenient landing location and burn them down.
Time: 10 minutes
Difficulty: Cake
Karrabukk’s Peak
Start: Click a Grappling Hook at {-114,6,-499}.
Without the use of a mount, you must race to the top of the mountain in the time allotted. There are several locations along the most convenient path where a hungry swordbeak pterodon will spawn on you and root you until you kill it. These locations are {17,56,-459} , {81,127,-469} , {143,195,-531} , and {217,300,-526}.
Time: 2 minutes 30 seconds
Difficulty: Medium
Bug Begone
Start: Click on a dead denmatron at {492,85,-782}.
You must find 20 a fresh hatchling in the time allotted. You do not need to click them, just walk over them. About 50% of them will cause you to be attacked by a lost Denmatron which must be defeated before you can proceed. You may want to clear some of the adds in the nearby area as otherwise you’ll likely run out of time fighting mobs.
Time: 4 minutes
Difficulty: Tricky if you don’t clear the area first
Daily Overland Missions – Phantom Sea
Hidden Cache
Start: Click a small chest at {1150,11,-1186}.
NOTE: Requires having completed the Altar of Malice signature quest.
Spam-click on mucktail treasurekeepers until they become attackable. Then defeat them before they reach the cache.

The Shadow Lurkers
Start: Click a dead Akheva at {-1051,95,-710}
Uncover and kill 15 a Shadow Senshali in the time allotted. These are difficult to find (they spawn in a large area amongst ruins, trees, and hills) and worse, they are 103^^ Heroic! It’s highly suggested that you fly around and clear area trash before attempting this quest.
Time: 10 minutes
Difficulty: Tough
Tasty Greens
Start: Click a coaxplant under a palm tree at {-1114,124,1044}.
Protect the plant! You must defeat waves of a coaxed Allu’thoa landhunter until an enraged Allu’thoa lavakin appears. Defeat him and the quest is complete. However if the Allu’thoa reach the plant, then you will fail.
Time: 4 minutes
Difficulty: Cake
Stegodon Savior
Start: Click a sick stegodon at {-1351,32,1409}
Fly to the cliff tops of the nearby mountain and kill 10 a savage pterodon. Quickly bring the pterodon livers back to where you found the ailing stegodon and click on a surviving pygmy deinocaretaker to give him the livers.
Time: 4 minutes
Difficulty: Cake
Highpass Holdup
Start: Click a traveler’s pack at {605,200,455} in the narrow path leading to Highhold Castle.
You must defeat 15 a risen Shralok ambusher in the time allotted. The mobs are concentrated in a small area, making this one of the easiest of these missions, provided you don’t pull more than two of them, as each one has a devastating attack.

It’s nice to see them continuing to do something with markable objects. There’s a hidden quest for them in High Keep Contested as well; no currency that I remember but you do get a title.

Don’t have the locations handy, but can give approximate names/descriptions from memory for those that care to go record the exact details…
Tranquil Sea:
Isle of Refuge (4)
– Rock in the middle of the bay
– Wheel in the dig site pit.
– Ship’s wheel on the wall in the crow’s nest / tree house.
– Tombstone in the graveyard area.
Death Weave (2)
– Crate on the beach at that abandoned camp site you land at on the sig quest.
– Egg sack (on the easterly side of the island iirc).
South Dshinn (4)
– Bowl at the first pygmy camp.
– Bone at the tar pits
– Rock on the east side of the island on the edge of the pond
– Bone outside Zavith’loa
Phantom Sea:
North Dshinn (4)
– Flour Bags at the hidden Far Seas camp on that small beach
– Seashell in one of those structures in the main lizardman village
– Bowl/plate thing at a standalone lizardman camp somewhere between the above two locations (have to be pretty close for this to render)
– Nest up in the mountains on the east side of the island.
Kithicor (4)
– Chest in that keep (to the right of the named there)
– Barrel inside one of the cabins near the undead rangers
– Oar inside one of the row boats at that dark elf place.
– Last is inside castle highhold at the forge area (fly over the walls, east side)
Grim Shales (2)
– Stone thing near to where you land on the sig quest.
– Pillar on the southern side of the island.
Like I said, the above is from memory, so if anyone wants exact locations then hope that helps.
The only markable that I am having trouble locating is the egg sack. I’ve been looking at Death Weave island but no luck so far…
Two instances of the direction “East” in the list of markables (egg sac and pteradon nest) should really be “west”.
Nearly impossible to get them done within the time limit. And they ARE impossible if anyone else is trying to get them done at the same time. And 3 ferrin, when you need tens of thousands, is still a joke.
I wish I had access to how often they are actually completed by the player base. I assume someone is monitoring that.

I run several of the fun quests each day. I run 1-2 of the advanced solo instances as well.
I’m wondering why you think you need “tens of thousands” of ferrin as a solo player. As a solo player, your target is yellow gear, or blue when you get in the occasional group. With 7 slots of armor, 4 gems each, that’s 28 upgrades. With 9 per yellow upgrade, that’s 252. At 45 per blue, that’s 1260 for a fully upgraded set. If you’re thinking that green gem armor is the primary goal for the solo player, I would have to disagree.
Seeing as this article specifically has in it’s title “Solo Players”, I assume that you are focusing your comment based on the topic at hand. And as it appears, a solo player is not in need of “tens of thousands” of ferrin. To me, it seems that the rewards are fairly in line with the rewards for the type of player that the content is targeted to.
If I was a player who grouped regularly, I would be in instances earning greater rewards. But that is a conversation for a completely different article.

I just finished a few with a different class, and the experience was very different. Of course this character was far better geared as well. Are you counting purple runes etc.?
I do most of these fairly often and only have an issue with a couple, even on poorly/mid geared alts. The spider squish, shadow lurkers and the defend the Hidden Cache ones are difficult if you can’t do a bunch of dps. The rest aren’t unless someone else is getting the truffles from you.

I think it is 6225 ferrins for fully upgraded green gem armor with purple adornments and fuel for 5 war runes.
The ‘recharge rate’ on the overland repeatables is about 12hrs, not the standard 18 or 24.
