Double Currency for EQ2 Gold Subscribers!

Over the last year, Free-to-Play has become less and less inhibited by restrictions and additional costs. This has unbalanced the equation such that even diehard EQ2 players have pondered whether a Gold Subscription is worth keeping when so much is simply given away.Recently, the EQ2 team seems to have realized the inequity of the current situation and the need for more carrots for Subscribers.

Tomorrow, we’ll get a rather big reason to keep an EQ2 Gold Subscription up. From Holly “Windstalker” Longdale‘s twitter:

With this change, all in-game alternate currencies (ie not plat) will drop at twice the rate. This should also help immensely with the earning of [eq2u]Draconic Etyma[/eq2u].

You can also read the EQ2 Forums Announcement: Gold Members Earn Double Tokens!

Starting with tomorrows update and until February 25th, 2014 all Gold Members will earn twice as many token rewards when completing quests or actions that would grant an alternate currency token! Examples include Etyma, City Tokens, Goblin Gold, etc..

If you aren’t currently a Gold Member this is a great time to start. Head to EverQuest2.com to learn more!

Note: Double Tokens does not apply to currency received from PvP kills.

Very good. We need these kinds of perks to have a reason to keep subscribing. I’m willing to bet the time frame is only on there so they can make sure that this works the way they want it to, and then it’ll be a permanent change. Just like the current Gold Rush.

I expect more “carrots” for Gold Subscribers in the future.

20 etymsa coins for the weekly tradeskill ? I need to send more crafters up there and grind away.

its an interesting call. Faced with a decent amount of protests over how expensive in etymsa the top upgraded are, it was felt they would reduce the costs, and I’ve seen a few posts to wait for a nerf to make things easier

but they went with increasing what gold players get.

it won’t please everyone (a gold member with only a few toons on their account is still looking at a decent amount of grinding), but im fine with their call

Dropped…does this mean out of chests or from quests as well such as the weekly crafting?

I think they do it tje right way;, not taking away from the f2p players but by giving extras to the sibscribers.

I hope they keep adding more features like this.
(and I’m saying this while beeing a F2P customer myself).

This is excellent news – these sort of Gold member perks should a great incentive to keep or upgrade to Gold.

May we also need a way to turn those old useless Marks and Obols and other outdated rewards into something useful instead of currency page spam. I know I don’t need more plat, but I could use some of the new Etyma and have a few too many City tokens, maybe even a few legacy coins that were left behind when expansions happened.

I too hate carrying around 100+ void shards, marks of manaar, and primal velium shards. However, the exchange rate would have to be enormous to prevent exploits and massive inflation. Remember what happend with PR and plat? Imagine what would happen if people started farming TSO and SF zones for Etyma. Anyone geared for ToV should be able to solo those zones.

As usual, we, euro users, will have to wait until patch is done, one day later.

Excellent, this is exactly the kind of stuff that could make Gold subscription worth the money. Depending on how they react to certain balancing issues, I might actually buy this expansion after all.

I was thinking about dropping down to the silver account but I will consider keeping it now. Splitpaw does not have the patch yet so I have not been able to check out its implementation but it sounds like a good idea

To me all this shows how the rush to free to play wasn’t fully thought through by the bean counters at SOE,clearly there’s not enough full subs so its suffering, maybe as other f2p games are starting to find out the promised land isn’t all it seems.

the way I see this it is great. I still have our gold subs. I was considering letting them go. They should make this change permanent. Other perks would be nice to see.
