March Update Plans for EverQuest II

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Live Events

After allusions by EQ2 Senior Producer Holly “Windstalker” to a “very detailed list” of issues and bugs and indications that today’s March update would “answer several of the substantive questions“, EQ2 Community Manager Piestro has revealed EQ2’s March Update Plans which contain many things we’ve heard before, but one interesting surprise:

There are lots of activities and events to participate in this month! And while you?re busy playing, the Dev team is preparing for the Game Update 63: Skyshrine launch. We are already playtesting internally and excited about this release. As we write this, development is wrapping up and we’ll be going to Test server in mid-March, so come and check it out then.

You can expect to be getting details on the Skyshrine update fairly soon too. We’ve already got Behind the Scenes videos in preparation to give you a look inside the creation of this game update.

Destiny of Velious Story Continues
With Skyshrine in mind, before the update goes live, we will be releasing a new chapter in the Destiny of Velious signature line, continuing the story of the Age?s End saga.

DOV Dungeon Timers Reduced to 90 Minutes!
Get prepared for the next Game Update and gear up in Destiny of Velious group dungeons — timers are being reduced from 18 hours to 90 minutes!

New Pathing Code
In exciting code news, new pathing is on Test right now and we’re hoping to bring that to Live when it has passed rigorous testing. For those who don?t know, ?pathing? is what the monsters and pets use to travel from points A to B in our game.

Bye-bye Crit Mit
The Critical Mitigation stat removal change that is on Test will be going to live servers this month. This does not apply to the PVP Critical Mitigation stat.

Neriak City Festival and Aether Races – March 1-7

Brewday Festival March 8-19

Blast from the Past with the Chronoportals EQ2 Anniversary event – March 20-28.

UPDATE: An update from Windstalker

Couple of clarifying notes…

Hotfixes will continue weekly and the details will be made available as usual with those.  We plan on going to Test with Game Update content (Wednesday, March 14) and we will release more details beyond “Dragons, dragons, and more dragons!” on March 13. I am in the process of preparing details to release weekly after the announcement.

We are also expecting to run another poll this month to dig a little deeper into what we learned with the last one (and it will be international).

The team — while still submitting bug fixes and content tweaks daily — is focusing the majority of time on the Game Update.

If they’re going to reduce DOV dungeon timers down to 90 minutes, why not reduce ALL dungeon timers down to 90 minutes?

    It makes zero sense.

Actualy it does make sense. They are trying to control xp/aaxp gain and loot gained from RoK and SoF zones. By dropping them to a 90 min timer there are a host of issues that would arise.

I am not saying I am against it. I just think that is probably the way they are viewing it.

    good news about the pathing.
I dont care about lockout timers, they have a purpose – people shouldn’t do the same instance over and over every day and visit other instances too…

I posted this in the forum as I prefer to state a case/reason/issue than ignore it. If it gets deleted then so be it. I have a feeling that the only EQ2 in my life will be this site soon. The sub runs out on March 12th and while the game won’t interest me, I will still visit here to see whats going on generally.

I am pretty disappointed regarding the content of this change, or more accuratelt eh lack of it. It is such a shame to see the game die. If you look at my accounts Piestro and Windstalker you will see I cancelled them both. I wanted you to see this so you know this is why they were cancelled.

The poor communication and engagement of the community and the whole P7 debacle, but mostly the last 6 months of poor SOE behaviour are the reasons.

I used to crave to read these producers letters as they had superb content and gave a buzz feeling. This one is pretty empty.

Now you can delete my post, and you can ignore my feedback, but as a player who joined at launch, and has only just quit the game, I hope you will take the comment on board.

I wish you nothing but the best, but I simply cannot support you any more, either financially, or in response to the recent issues.

whats more piestro though he/she should be the only person comunicating and that the producer had better things to do, and thats how it probably went down. Holly probably told piestro you go do this i dont like being flamed.

How are the loss of crit mit going in test? Heard it wasn’t going well at all… sure this is ready to implement? They nailed it in test, and it works without problems?

You can always look on the in testing feedback board if you want info on how somethings going. According to the newest posts there it seems the mobs have stopped criting entirely. so if they’re right then yes it’s ready to go live.

Absolutely no clue about Crit mit. I know some people around are testing it but for my part I don’t know enough about crit mit mechanics to be able to test it. If you’re so much concerned, you may want to copy your char on Test_Copy and have a look.
